Computational Subsurface Hydrology Postdoctoral Researcher

Job Description


Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in science and engineering on behalf of national security. Our Computational Earth Science Group is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher inComputational Subsurface Hydrology. You will use discrete fracture network models to understand subsurface systems, including the long-term disposal of spent nuclear fuel and reservoir management. Successful applicants will have a background in subsurface flow and transport simulations with expertise in some or all of the following areas:

  • Computational physics model development
  • Reactive transport
  • Fracture/matrix interactions
  • Multiphase flow simulations

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in a STEM field (or completion by time of appointment)
  • Experience with code development
  • Publications in refereed journals and a history of successful research in collaborative team environments

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in discrete fracture network modeling
  • Proficiency with one or more of the following programming languages: Fortran, C or C++
  • Experience with Python Experience using version control tools (e.g., git)
  • Experience with model and data visualization tools such as Petrel, EarthVision, Paraview or Visit Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance
