JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The laboratory of Dr. Bordenstein in the Department of Biology at The Pennsylvania State University is recruiting a highly motivated Postdoctoral Scholar to work on the human microbiome and virome. The successful applicant must have the ability to plan, execute, interpret, document, and troubleshoot multi-faceted independent research. They must also have the ability to collaborate effectively with members of a research team and the campus-wide Microbiome Center. The successful candidate will excel in several of the following areas: computational biology, molecular biology for high throughput sequencing, statistics, social sciences, mentoring junior members of the lab and campus community, lead major writing and organizational efforts of manuscripts and grants, or communicate their science to peers and the public through presentations, writing, and digital formats. Excellent organizational, presentation, scheduling, and verbal communication skills are required.

A successful candidate should possess at least a Doctorate degree or equivalent in an academic field related to the research including the microbiome sciences, bioinformatics, statistics, etc. The individual must also have experience with some of the following: teaching microbiome workshops, institutional review boards, biosafety handling/regulations of human specimens, and molecular biology skills for preparing, sequencing, and analyzing microbial omics data.
