The Health Science Center (HSC) is looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to serve as a member of the Neuroscience & Experimental Therapeutics team. Job Description Summary: The postdoctoral research associate is responsible for completing experiments to meet the specific aims of NIH funded and related projects in accordance with animal use protocols approved by the Texas A&M University Institutional Care and Use Committee. Specific responsibilities include planning and scheduling experiments, analyzing data, conducting surgeries and providing surgical care, conducting behavioral assays, and writing manuscript sections. The postdoctoral research associate will also conduct other lab tasks, as assigned, including histological analyses and microscopy and will help direct undergraduate volunteer work in the lab on related tasks. The position requires the ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Required Education:

  • Appropriate PhD

Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Education:

  • PhD in Neuroscience or related field.

Preferred Experience:

  • Prior jugular catheter implantation and stereotaxic surgery experience in rodents.
  • Prior lab experience, prior academic writing experience.

Preferred Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Expertise in academic writing, rodent handling and behavioral study abilities, rodent surgical techniques
  • Histology and statistical expertise
  • Expertise with biochemical assays.

Job Responsibilities

Rodent surgeries and verification

  • Perform stereotaxic injections in mice, collect tissue, prepare, and stain for injection site determination; perform intrajugular catheter implantation in mice and post-surgery care.

Writing manuscript(s)

  • Writing manuscript sections. Manuscripts are expected to be data-based and/or review/opinion type. Will require searching and reading literature, discussing background, rendering and interpreting results.

Behavioral Assays and Data Analyses

  • Perform mouse intravenous self-administration, conditioned place preference, or as assigned.
  • Perform data analysis and graphing using Prism and/or jamovi statistical software.

Miscellaneous Lab Tasks

  • May conduct other lab tasks or assays (e.g., western blotting, cell culture, preparing lab solutions, genotyping, etc.)

Other Duties

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
