IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: ASSOCIATE CURATOR

STATUS: Part Time, Non-Exempt

HOURS: 16 hours/week

SALARY: $18.50 per hour, DOE

BENEFITS: Sick Leave & Retirement Program

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Exhibitions Assistant, a vital member of BIMA, supports the Curatorial Department with exhibition databases and development, and care, storage, and installation of artworks. This person reports to the Associate Curator and interfaces with Curatorial Staff, Volunteers, and other departments in support of BIMA’s exhibitions and collections programs.

In addition to Curatorial support, we seek someone who shares the BIMA’s commitment to active inclusion and equity, engages cultural communities and experiences, and embraces storytelling and the arts as inextricable parts of social justice and anti-racism.

Requirements:


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintain multiple BIMA databases, exhibitions checklists, and records in support of Exhibitions and the Permanent Art Collection.

Assist in coordinating and tracking artworks, contracts, loan agreements, etc. with artists, collectors, galleries, art institutions, and community partners.

Assist with exhibition display information including labels, text panels, and signage.

Follow BIMA art handling and art installation policies and procedures, and assist the Art Installation Team with art pick-ups and deliveries as needed.

Help with routine monitoring and maintenance of the exhibitions.

Assist with Gallery Host and Volunteer supervision duties when needed.

Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Abilities:

Excellent computer skills and ability to use multiple databases.

Keen proofreading to ensure quality control with documents and records.

Excellent interpersonal skills and written/verbal communication.

Problem-solving and analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy.

Excellent organizational skills with self-initiative to prioritize multiple projects to meet deadlines.

Works effectively and efficiently with people inside and outside of the organization.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent educational credentials, or relevant work experience.

Ability to use computer monitors and keyboards for extended periods.

Ability to stand for extended periods.

Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.

Valid Washington State driver’s license and personal car insurance.

Availability to work on major BIMA events as needed, especially the annual Auction.
