Bunker Hill Community College seeks a self-motivated, service oriented, full-time Librarian to work as part of the Library and Learning Commons (LLC) team, comprised of the Library and Tutoring and Academic Support Center (TASC), serving students, faculty, staff, and community users.

The Access Services Librarian will work with LLC team members and college stakeholders to design physical and virtual library spaces and access to resources, with a lens on diversity, inclusion, and equitable access. By working closely and in conjunction with the LLC team, the successful candidate will focus on being a bridge between students and access to resources, which include but are not limited to physical and digital materials, as well as events, presentations, and workshops.

The successful candidate will collaborate with LLC team members on assessment by collecting data and usage statistics to assist the department in making data-driven decisions and policies. The successful candidate oversees the circulation, InterLibrary Loan, and course reserves.

Duties and responsibilities include working with all library collections both physical and digital, providing library and instructional support to patrons on the Charlestown and Chelsea campuses, and collaborating with the LLC team to ensure daily operations are successfully implemented.

  • Collaborates with the LLC team to reimagine and redesign library and tutoring services and interfaces that focus on inquiry-guided active learning, student engagement, and student-centered pedagogy.
  • Ensures circulation desk coverage.
  • Assists in the delivery of the following: interlibrary loan materials, course reserves, workshops, and instruction.
  • Serves as liaison to academic departments - To Be Assigned after onboarding.
  • The incumbent will possess demonstrable ability to work independently and collaboratively with people of diverse backgrounds, knowledge of the research process, and familiarity with a wide range of educational technologies and productivity software.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills, and demonstrable organizational and time management skills.
  • The successful candidate will explore new ways of engaging LLC users, as well as advocate and provide leadership and vision to improve awareness of the LLC's robust services.
  • The successful candidate provides and models excellent customer service; provides reference and research support both in-person and through virtual reference initiatives; thinks critically in analyzing problems and developing resourceful solutions; manages a complex workload, prioritizing tasks and completing work on time with minimum supervision.

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Oversee patron records management.
  • Oversee and manage InterLibrary Loan deliveries, course reserves, and stacks collection management.
  • Collaborate with LLC staff to develop plans that align patrons' perspectives and experiences with the LLC mission, vision, and objectives in support of the college.
  • Oversees access services staffing schedule.
  • Collaborate with LLC team members, and other college departments, to promote, encourage, and engage in improving LLC services and resources.
  • Collaborate with the LLC team to create reports and visuals that address patron perspectives and offer solutions for effective and constructive user experiences.
  • Provide reference, instruction, workshops, and instructional sessions as needed in person and in virtual environments.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements:
  • A Master's degree in library or information science from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent.
  • At least 3 years of related academic library experience associated with access services librarianship or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively and inclusively with a diverse population of faculty, staff, and students.
  • Familiarity with current trends in academic library information systems, community colleges, and higher education.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated expertise in creating and delivering engaging and effective lesson plans for instruction sessions.
  • Demonstrated expertise in conducting reference consultations and familiarity with academic research reference sources: databases, integrated library systems, and research tools.
  • Capacity for working enthusiastically, flexibly, and creatively in a student-centered environment
  • Competency with a wide range of educational technologies and productivity software as well as Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrable Access Services experience.
  • Subject specialization in one or more academic disciplines preferred.
  • Experience with educational technologies and their applications in academic libraries.
  • Experience with course and learning management systems, such as Blackboard, Moodle, or Canvas.
  • Experience with Springshare products.
  • Proficiency in Spanish or language other than English.
  • Experience with outreach and marketing services to students and faculty.


Additional Information:

Salary Range:$54,956.00-$60,899.00. Actual Salary Will Be Commensurate With Education & Experience in Accordance with MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement. Full state Benefits.
