The Department of Coatings and Polymeric Materials at North Dakota State University is seeking a postdoctoral research associate to conduct research in the field of computational chemistry and cheminformatics-based study of polymeric materials. The Post-Doctoral researcher will be responsible for carrying out the computational experiments, analyzing results and data with appropriate machine learning methods, and have the ability to write scientific reports and manuscripts for publication, and deliver presentations at scientific meetings and/or to other interested parties.

The successful candidate should have demonstrated experience with one or several research areas such as the cheminformatics-based materials modeling, expertise in various machine learning methods, expertise in development of metabolic complex networks, experience in multi-scale perturbation models development, polymeric materials investigation by computational methods. The post-doctoral researcher is also expected to assist in training and supervising student researchers, manage lab facilities, and perform other duties as requested by the PI. The initial appointment is for two years, with an opportunity for renewal for a third year depending on productivity and performance and the availability of funding.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Holds an earned Ph.D. in Chemistry, Cheminformatics, Computational Chemistry, Computational Materials Science or related disciplines.
  • Demonstrated experience in machine learning models development for organic compounds, polymeric materials and nanomaterials.
  • Demonstrated experience in development of complex and non-linear QSAR models
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to write manuscripts for research papers and present work in conference

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience on perturbation models (PTML) development, polymeric materials predictive modeling, virtual library development, polymeric materials datasets development, protein-ligand docking and sequence analysis of post-translational modifications in proteins.
  • Knowledge of Python programming and specific cheminformatics tools, such as KNIME, Weka, CDKit, RDKit, ChemAxon is plus.

Advertised salary: $40,000+
