Admissions Counselor

POSITION SUMMARY

Under general supervision, assist with admission, college, and career guidance for prospective students of all ages. Provide superb customer and administrative support that enables the department to achieve its recruitment and enrollment goals and advance of the mission of Marion Technical College (the "College").

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES, FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Respond to inquiries from students, College employees and customers in a timely manner while maintaining confidentiality and privacy in accordance with the College, HIPAA, FERPA, student records, and any other protected documentation.
  2. Plan, create and organize social media communications for College promotion and student recruitment.
  3. Provide enrollment guidance and general advising for current and prospective students of all ages and backgrounds.
  4. Meet with prospective students individually and in group settings on and off campus. Visit high schools, community agencies and businesses for recruiting purposes.
  5. Coordinate recruitment efforts with the academic departments to assist in reaching enrollment goals and projections, diversity, and specific market segments.
  6. Assist the director and assistant director with preparation and execution of events on campus such as college fairs, job fairs, information sessions, school counselor meetings, and elementary and middle-school tours.
  7. Create and organize special events as assigned. Coordinate promotion of such events with the College marketing department.
  8. Serve as liaison with students, parents, alumni, College employees and faculty for explaining and interpreting admissions, financial aid, transfer and career services functions, processes, and policies.
  9. Develop a thorough knowledge of College mission, programs, services, facilities, admission criteria, financial aid processes, legislation and program requirements affecting College enrollment including College Credit Plus, Ohio residency, federal student aid, etc.
  10. Establish proficient use of the College's student information system and web-based communication systems for the purpose of completing essential job duties.
  11. Attend professional development opportunities within the scope of work responsibilities and department/college objectives. Demonstrate self-motivation and willing to research and continually update knowledge and skills, as well as provide input and accept additional and changing work responsibilities.
  12. Attend on- or off-campus College meetings and serve on departmental and College committees as required or assigned by the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree required. Five years of general office and strong customer service experience preferred. Previous experience in higher education or with diverse populations and age ranges highly desired. Experience with promotional use of social media applications preferred. Exhibit excellent verbal, writing, and public speaking skills. Proficiency in Microsoft® Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) required. Demonstrate the ability to work independently and complete projects with minimal direction and oversight. Any combination of work experience, training, and/or education equivalent may be accepted. Willingness to work an irregular schedule as assigned. Candidate must be able to successfully pass a background check, prior to and after employment. Valid driver’s license or dependable transportation required.

ADA SPECIFICATIONS

This position is classified, as Staff will perform a wide range of administrative functions for the College, primarily in an office setting. Further information may be obtained from the Office of Human Resources.
