SUMMARY

This position will remain open until filled.

This position will coordinate campus safety and security through leadership and collaboration with all departments on campus. Leadership will be provided for the various functions and procedures that must be followed and implemented to ensure a safe and secure campus for all students, employees, and visitors. This position reports directly to the President.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identify hazardous operations and recommend solutions to minimize hazards.
  • Coordinate ongoing safety and security projects
  • Develop safety programs
  • Coordinate with the Director of Facilities on any issue relating to OSHA and other safety-related concerns
  • Conduct routine safety/security inspections
  • Advise the President’s Council on campus safety/security issues
  • Update and advise college personnel on safety and security matters
  • Complete and publish the yearly Department of Education Campus Safety and Security Survey
  • Perform work during emergency/disaster situations
  • Update and monitor the college’s Emergency Plan
  • Manage the college’s Crisis Management Program initiatives
  • Train campus employees on lock-down procedures
  • Serve as training liaison with local law enforcement agencies
  • Provide supervisory oversight/management of the college’s Campus Security Program
  • Approve, coordinate, and publish College Resource Officer schedules to include daytime, evening, holiday, and weekend schedules
  • Develop, train, and deliver campus security programs and initiatives
  • Manage and promote the college’s “No Drug Tolerance” policy
  • Investigate workplace accidents and complete incident reports
  • Acquire computer/technology competencies as appropriate to the position
  • Maintain security of personal computer access
  • Perform other professional or job-related duties as assigned
  • Serve on college committees as directed by supervisor

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of the requisite knowledge, skill and abilities.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Skills

Required: Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice or related field and/or current NC law enforcement certifications.

Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice or related field. Bilingual; Career Readiness Certificate (CRC)

Experience

Required: Minimum of 2 years security/law enforcement experience or equivalent

Preferred: Prior community college or university campus safety/security law enforcement experience.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to focus. May require travel.
