Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Computational Biology

Oberlin

Job Description

The Goldman lab in the Department of Biology at Oberlin College invites applications for a full-time postdoctoral researcher in computational biology. This is a one-year, non-continuing position with the potential of renewal for up to one additional year. The postdoctoral fellow will work with Dr. Aaron Goldman on a NASA-funded research project investigating the origin and early evolution of life. The research, which will be entirely computational in nature, seeks to identify relationships between ancient life forms and the early Earth environments in which they originated.
Responsibilities
The postdoctoral fellow will conduct research using standard techniques from bioinformatics, phylogenetics, and/or computational modeling in order to better understand early evolutionary history and how it was shaped by prebiotic chemistry and early Earth environments. The research is part of a broader effort across multiple labs and institutions funded by the NASA Interdisciplinary Consortia for Astrobiology Research. For more information on the NASA-funded team, see http://earthfirstorigins.rare.rpi.edu/index.html. The postdoctoral fellow will interact with other labs across the team and attend team workshops. The postdoctoral fellow will also have the opportunity to mentor Oberlin undergraduates assisting with the research
