Full Job Description

General Summary:

Research Associate in genomic sequencing laboratory performs basic cancer-related Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) molecular biology assays (genomics, epigenomics, transcriptome), data organization, human sample handling, developing molecular assays pertaining to circulating tumor cells and cell-free DNA, and other tasks as assigned by manager or department director.

The caregiver must be sufficiently fluent in the English language to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the position. The degree of fluency required will vary depending upon the nature of the position.

Perform general laboratory support duties:

  • DNA/RNA extraction, protein preparation, IHC staining.
  • Learn, develop and run molecular assays.
  • Record keeping and inventory.
  • Prepare reagents and handle human blood and tissue samples.
  • Literature search and organization.
  • Assist senior scientists in research projects.
  • Managing data.

Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for own professional practice in regard to:

  • Attendance, punctuality and patient confidentiality.
  • Positive public relation image and working relationships.
  • Obtaining necessary knowledge and skill needed to maintain competence and certifications.
  • Completing all mandatory requirements, including annual safety programs, CPR, infection control and annual physical.

Participates in the development and attainment of team, department and hospital goals including:

  • Attending and participating in department meetings.
  • Volunteering or accepting assignments for projects.
  • Mission, vision and team ground rules.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Fax, photocopy, and other administrative duties.

JOB SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  • Must have basic computer skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Ability to learn and follow new procedures for scientific assay techniques.
  • Able to contribute as part of a team.
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of personalities and professional circumstances.
  • Any Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) experience preferred.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour
