This is a 4-month, temporary full-time faculty position reporting directly to the Academic Dean of the Division of Science & Mathematics. The instructor is responsible for teaching 15 load hours for the Fall semester in the area of Biological/ Life Science courses with the availability to teach mornings, afternoons, evenings, or weekends, and remote synchronous (live-streaming) or asynchronous (online) as needed. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

  • This instructor will teach courses in at least two fields such as; general biology, environmental sciences and plant sciences. Other life science fields such as zoology, microbiology and anatomy and physiology will be considered for the secondary field.
  • The instructor will teach and manage their own lab sections, prepare course syllabi and outline.
  • Full-time faculty are to be available to students, other faculty and administrators for consultation of at least 10 office hours per week (due to conditions at this time, office hours may be satisfied remotely).
  • The instructor may be asked to develop courses and should have a basic level of technology proficiency.
  • In addition, the instructor will attend meetings and functions of the college and department (many remotely), serve on both departmental and college-wide committees, and complete other duties as assigned by the division dean or department chair. Additional service to the college may include student advising (formal or informal) and mentoring or orienting of new faculty.
  • Professional development may be encouraged or required in some circumstances.
Rate of pay: determined by month faculty scale placement (education and experience), prorated per semester
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Demonstrated teaching ability is the top priority. Instructional experience and leadership experience at a community college is a priority. Ability to use an on-line platform. On-line delivery of instruction, use of technology for instruction, and experience or interest in project based, service learning, or inquiry based learning will be given special consideration. Knowledge of good laboratory procedures, governmental safety regulations regarding lab safety is desirable.

Required Qualifications
Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate hours related to biology or life science required. Fifteen graduate hours supporting the secondary science courses are also necessary. One year minimum of face-to face college teaching experience is expected. Other job related education and/or experience may be substituted on approval of screening committee.
