Coordinator for the Center for Adult Transition (Grant Funded)

Job Description

The Center for Adult Transition is designed to prepare young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities for meaningful employment, as well as independent and community living. The Coordinator will play an important leadership role in designing the program as well as overseeing its implementation. Along with overseeing the Center, the Coordinator will teach program seminars, as well as oversee a Center Staff.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Plan, conduct, and implement evidence-based practices for students with intellectual disabilities focused on transition and employment.
  • Assist in developing and cultivating partnerships with schools, community and state based organizations, parent organizations to strengthen transition programming for young adults with disabilities.
  • Recruit students through referrals and contact with school districts, agencies, etc.
  • Oversee development, coordination, and implementation of activities associated with orientations, workshops, job shadowing, site visits, internship placements, student and family seminars, and career exploration activities in accordance with WIOA Guidelines.
  • Assist student participants in developing individualized educational/career plans based on appraisals of aptitude, interests, personality and other relevant vocational factors.
  • Assist with development and oversight of career based programming for students in career paths, resume building, job search, interviewing techniques, appropriate work habits and interpersonal skills necessary for success in competitive employment.
  • Facilitate workshops and public forums relating to services provided by the Center.
  • Produce content for newsletters and other publications or correspondence by establishing and maintaining multi-media communications platforms that relate to the Center.
  • Facilitate distribution of consumer satisfaction surveys.
  • Assist with advocacy efforts pertinent to Center activities.
  • Cultivate, develop and maintain positive relationships with consumers, educational systems, referring agencies, funding sources, business communities and families.
  • Performs additional tasks or duties as assigned by the Managing Director or other designated management.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

  • Grant Funded Annual Salary - $75,000.
  • NJ Educators Health Plan with free Vision and Dental. NJ State Pension plan.
  • 15 vacation days, 15 sick days, 4 personal days, 2 floating holidays, all designated holidays and 5 non-designated holidays a year. 3 Partial Sick Days.
  • Tuition reimbursement opportunities for staff and their family 6 months after hire.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL SKILLS

Education:

A minimum requirement of a Bachelor's Degree in Special Education, Vocational Rehabilitation, Social Work or related fields.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience working with young adults/students with intellectual disabilities in an educational and or/related setting required. Experience working in a post-secondary setting is preferred.
  • Experience designing and implementing assessment of learning outcomes and vocational plans for young adults with intellectual disabilities.
  • Working with and supporting the transitional planning needs of students with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families preferred.
  • Strong background of supporting students with intellectual and developmental disabilities in higher education, K-12 schools, or in the community.
  • Experience carrying out, managing, or coordinating projects or programs for individuals with disabilities in a higher education setting.
  • Writing and managing grants, especially state or federally funded grants.
  • Experience in collaborating with state and local Vocational Rehabilitation agencies to support employment for people with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of research, theories, literature, and trends in accommodations, modifications, and other supports for students with disabilities in a higher education setting.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $75,000.00 per year
