Financial Aid Advisor

Job Description

The Financial Aid Advisor is responsible for receiving, evaluating, and verifying student data to award federal, state, and institutional financial aid. Student eligibility is determined in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, policies and procedures. A person in this position is responsible for advising students on matters of financial aid eligibility, providing necessary information regarding student financial assistance programs, and using professional judgment in considering individual student requests for special consideration, satisfactory academic progress, dependency overrides, and debt management issues. Financial Aid Advisors are responsible for the administration of specific financial aid programs or services such as outreach programs, Oklahoma’s Promise scholarship program, Oklahoma Tuition Aid Grant program, and other programs which warrant a specific assignment.

Bachelor’s Degree

Excellent communication skills.

Demonstrated basic math skills.

Commitment to performing work in a confidential, ethical, and professional manner.

Available to work a flexible schedule as needed to successfully perform the duties of this position.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

1. GENERAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Sedentary work: The person in this position may occasionally exert up to 10 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

2. PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
This position requires the person to frequently communicate with and listen to students, administration, faculty, staff, and others to perform the essential functions of the position. Must be able to exchange accurate information in various situations.

This position frequently requires the person to operate a computer and other office equipment to perform the essential functions of the position.

This position requires the person to frequently operate equipment that involves repetitive motions of hands and wrists.

3. VISUAL ACUITY:
This position requires the person to judge, observe and assess the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned or to make general observations.

4. WORKING CONDITIONS
This position performs the essential functions in an indoor office setting.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a student financial aid office or in a student services office

Required Training Work Hours

40 hours a week. Some evening and weekend hours required. Office is open Monday through Thursday 8:00AM-6:00PM and Friday 8:00AM-5:00PM.
