Job Description

Student Access Services Coordinator

Clatsop Community College, a public, two-year institution, located in Astoria, Oregon, serving students and communities in northwest Oregon and southwest Washington, is seeking a Student Access Services Coordinator to work with its students.

Assignment

This is a full-time, exempt position.

General Description

Provides direct support to students with disabilities as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Conducts disability eligibility analyses, provides referrals, approves reasonable accommodations, and connects students with services to support their academic goals. Educates campus constituencies regarding support for students with disabilities and facilitates compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as amended, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and related federal, state, and local regulations and college policies.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Performs intake interviews to gain a foundational understanding of individual student needs and evaluates information from medical and or psychological professionals to determine eligibility; consults with others as necessary.

  • Works with students to determine appropriate and reasonable accommodations; connects students to and or provides direct resources and services; and compiles necessary documentation to verify the need for accommodations

  • Educates students, families, faculty and staff on appropriate services for and communications with individuals with disabilities.

  • Assists students in solving obstacles unique and or common to individuals with disabilities; interfaces with campus constituencies to ensure students gain equitable access to resources.

  • Advocates for students when appropriate.

  • Increases understanding regarding issues affecting individuals with disabilities by delivering presentations, trainings, workshops and providing educational materials related to research and best practices.

  • Provides training educational materials to college staff and faculty to ensure all students have equitable access to education.

  • Maintains files and records of interactions with students with disabilities and analyses effectiveness of accommodations; compiles reports and analyzes data related to accommodations, compliance and program efficacy.

  • Maintains confidentiality of student records, as applicable.

  • Maintains current knowledge with respect to technology, equipment, applicable laws, regulations, standards and or systems.

  • Researches and purchases assistive equipment, software and internet resources in order to best provide accommodations.

  • Assists with the development of instructional materials and or adaptation of existing material.

  • Hires and schedules all readers, interpreters, CART service providers, etc.

  • Oversees the Student Access Services budget.

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, Special Education, Social Work, Rehabilitation Counseling, or closely related field.

  • Minimum of one (1) year’s experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified; experience in handling and maintaining confidential and sensitive information; experience with Microsoft Office, AIM and other pertinent software.

  • Or equivalent combination of education and or experience.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge and understanding of ADA regulations, guidelines and standards as applicable to an academic setting.

  • Knowledge and understanding of HIPAA and FERPA and related federal and state privacy laws and regulations.

  • Strong listening, interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Ability to assess and interpret individual client needs and to make appropriate referrals to internal or external sources.

  • Ability to deliver effective presentations.

  • Ability to use independent judgement to manage and impart confidential information.

  • Skilled in facilitating problem solving with individuals regarding personal, professional and or academic priorities.

  • Effective collaboration with a wide range of constituencies within the college and community.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Knowledge of teaching methods, curriculum, and education programs designed for students with learning, physical and behavioral disabilities, where applicable.

  • Ability to communicate with and relate to individuals of diverse disabilities and backgrounds.

  • Ability to gather data, compile information and prepare reports.

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Knowledge of digital and technology accessibility standards and practices.

Preferred Qualification:

  • Extensive experience related to accommodations in post-secondary education.

Work is primarily in a climate-controlled office setting environment; and may include additional hours beyond the normal workday as required.
