Full Job Description
The School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences (SMAPS) at the University of New England seeks a full-time, nine-month Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor of Physics for the 2022-23 academic year. The school seeks an individual who is highly committed to an academic appointment with an emphasis on excellence in teaching at a primarily undergraduate institution and who will become an actively engaged member of the School, College, and University communities. The start date for this position is August 22, 2022.

The School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences (SMAPS) is located on Biddeford’s waterfront campus, with easy access to city-based amenities, fields and forested areas, rocky coastlines, sandy beaches and nearby mountains.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will teach in the two-semester General Physics sequence. SMAPS provides instruction to a wide range of life, health, and marine sciences majors and seeks to connect relevant biological content to a physics concepts foundation of mechanics, fluids and waves. The General Physics sequence uses modeling physics instruction with activities adapted and implemented for an “Introductory Physics for Life Sciences (IPLS) approach. In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will participate in curriculum assessment; academic advising; recruiting; and service to the school, college, and University.
Qualifications
A master’s degree in physics or a closely related field is required by the time of hire. Candidates with a Ph.D. in physics are preferred. Individuals with experience and/or training in physics education research, guided inquiry techniques (such as modeling instruction), and/or teaching introductory physics for life and health science majors are especially encouraged to apply. Successful candidates will have experience in, and a demonstrated commitment to, promoting and supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion in an educational and work environment consistent with the University’s core value.
