DIRECTOR OF CONTINUING EDUCATION

SALARY: $72,708.57 - $ 77,836.90


LOCATION: Lynnwood, Washington


Description:

We have a great position open for a creative, innovative, and business-minded individual. Is this you? The Director of Continuing Education leads the department that provides most of the non-credit and personal enrichment courses for our community. This department dreams up the classes that people take for fun! The department is currently expanding to include workforce and industry certification training, strategic leadership, and corporate training opportunities. Under the general direction of the Dean of Business and Continuing Education, the Director provides leadership and oversight for the following programs: Community Education, Creative Retirement Institute, Youth Camps, Center for Industry Certification (CIC), Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pursuit), the Center for Strategic Engagement (CSE), and other classes offered for professional development and by contract.

This is an exempt position that reports to the Dean of Business & Continuing Education.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supervise full and part time staff (currently 4) and assure that a customer-centered team effort for serving students and instructors is maintained.
  • Lead a group of about 80 faculty and subject matter experts to provide excellent class experiences for all CE students.
  • Assist with the day-to-day operations of the department, which may include answering phones, registering students, and checking on classrooms.
  • Manage grant and instructional budgets of all self-support funded areas of the department.
  • Grow revenue year over year.
  • Lead or assist with grant applications as appropriate.
  • Oversee all marketing, public relations, promotion and sales activities for the department.
  • Connect with the community outside of the college and create avenues for community members to give input and insight into program offerings.
  • In addition, the Director of Continuing Education will serve on campus committees that address major college-wide initiatives and/or maintain college systems as requested.
  • Act as a representative of the college within the local community with organizations, including but not limited to: Economic Alliance of Snohomish County, Edmonds Chamber of Commerce, and Partner Lynnwood.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Education, or a closely related field.
  • One year of experience in program administration or departmental leadership.
  • Two years of experience developing classes, curriculum or training for adults.


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in business, adult education or other field related to the position.
  • Some teaching or training experience with adult learners.
  • Commitment to a diverse educational and work environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with community partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead in a team environment.
  • Experience developing, marketing, and evaluation programs in a business context.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Independent and self-motivated working style.


PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is generally performed in an office environment. The ability to speak clearly on the telephone, use a computer is required. Recurring early/late hours (weekend/early morning/evening meetings). This position requires the ability to drive and use of a personal vehicle. The ability to make sound judgments is essential.


COMPENSATION:

Salary is $72,708.57 - $ 77,836.90 and is based on the Edmonds CC administrative/exempt salary schedule, plus a full state benefits package, which includes tuition waivers for college classes, medical, dental, retirement options and more. Vacation and leave package includes 12 sick days per year, 11 scheduled holidays, 1 personal holiday, and 24 vacation leave days per year.


WORK SCHEDULE:

Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., including some evenings and weekends.


FLSA Status:

The position is an exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act requirements.


CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
