THE POST - Lecturer in Social Sciences
An exciting opportunity has arisen for two Lecturers in Social Sciences to join the academic team on a full-time basis within the School of Education and Social Sciences at the UWS Paisley and Lanarkshire Campus. You will be joining a growing team with a broad range of academic and professional expertise. As a lecturer you will be expected to make a broad contribution to the academic work of the Social Sciences team.

Teaching duties will include both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, assessment and on-going curriculum development and management. You may also be expected to supervise undergraduate and post-graduate research students. We are welcoming candidates with expertise in social/public policy or sociology, including human rights and social justice; health and global development; work and welfare; poverty and wellbeing; family and children.

Experience of teaching at an undergraduate level and having an undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline are essential. Desirable candidates will have, or will be working towards completing, a PhD and have teaching experience across the subject area of social sciences. Our ideal candidate will have experience of using technology to enhance online learning and teaching and have a broad and critical understanding of research methods and theoretical issues relevant to the teaching of Social Sciences.

The successful candidate should have the following:

  • Degree and relevant postgraduate/PhD qualification or equivalent qualification
  • Higher Education Fellowship or equivalent
  • Experience of learning, teaching and assessment within Higher Education
  • Appropriate evidence of external engagement which is clearly in line with the School’s priority areas for the future (e.g. external engagement in terms of research, or knowledge exchange, or engagement with professional bodies or other external organisations)
  • Have experience of delivering and developing modules across the areas of social/public policy or sociology, including human rights and social justice; health and global development; work and welfare; poverty and wellbeing; family and children; and experience of hybrid delivery of learning and teaching and of use of authentic/real-world assessment approaches
  • Commitment to delivering high quality teaching and supporting an outstanding student experience.
