Position Description
Under the Academic Administrator assigned to the area, the Associate Dean provides leadership and oversight for Career Education instructional programs, instructional support services, and related services.

The Associate Dean will lead, supervise, evaluate, and support faculty and staff in assigned divisions and areas, in accordance with District policies and procedures; carry out complex projects and special programs; ensure continued compliance with district policies and procedures as well as state and federal regulations related to instruction; and work collaboratively with College administration, faculty, and staff to promote educational excellence and student success.

Example of Duties
Duties and essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following:

Leadership:
Support a climate that promotes innovation and improved service to students and the community; collaborate with area staff and other campus leaders to develop and implement processes that support student success.
Lead with sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students. Participate in campus initiatives related to inclusion, diversity, equity, and anti-racism and collaborative efforts to close equity gaps.
Provide year-round leadership for Career Education programs; assist in the development, implementation, and operation of Career Education instructional programs and related services including day, evening, weekend, intersession, and summer programs.
Provide support and assistance for planning and implementation of program industry advisory meetings.

Curriculum and Program Development:
Assist with administrative review and approval of new and revised Career Education curriculum; maintain a working knowledge of local and state curriculum guidelines and legislation.
Support faculty in the development, implementation, assessment, and improvement of Career Education programs.
Support faculty in the delivery of Career Education instruction in a variety of modalities (including face-to-face, online education, and student academic support); ensure that partnership agreements with other education institutions (including articulation/transfer agreements) are kept up to date.
Maintain working knowledge of local and state curriculum guidelines and legislation.

Enrollment Management:
Assist with the development of class schedules that meet local and state guidelines, achieve enrollment targets, and support the completion of student education goals.
Assist with tracking, monitoring, reporting, and analysis of data related to enrollment and enrollment management; identify and recommend adjustments to class schedules, budgets, and resource allocation to support enrollment and completion
Participate in marketing, outreach, and communication activities to promote programs, courses, and services within assigned areas(s).
Assist with student outreach, recruitment, and marketing efforts related to assigned areas.

Personnel Management:
Participate in the hiring process for management, faculty and classified staff in assigned division(s) and/or area(s).
Coordinate and participate in the professional development for assigned faculty and classified staff.
Supervise, support, and evaluate assigned classified staff according to District policies and procedures. Participate in the evaluation of faculty according to district policy and procedures.

Planning and Accreditation:
Provide leadership for, and support the completion of program review, planning, and resource allocation processes for assigned areas; support ongoing evaluation and improvement of the programs and services in the assigned areas.
Collaborate with managers, supervisors, faculty, and classified staff, ensure that area plans and budgets are aligned to college mission, goals, and objectives.
Assist with and participate in activities related to College-wide and program-specific accreditation.
Support faculty in completing program and course learning assessment; assist with tracking and reporting assessment progress.

Budgets and Grants:
Manage the approved annual budget for assigned areas.
Assist with the development, implementation, and oversight of grant applications and grant reporting.

Regulations:
Accurately interpret and apply provisions of the College's collective bargaining agreements.
Interpret, analyze, and apply appropriate laws, policies, rules and procedures to determine impact on assigned division(s) or area(s) and monitor compliance and reporting strategies.

General Operations:
Respond to, and seek resolution of complaints arising from division and/or area activities, including participating in the grievance process.
Actively participate in, and support, College and District participatory governance components, activities, and other collaborative processes.
Employ appropriate techniques and strategies to resolve disputes and to enhance communication and cooperation among the members of the College and District communities.
Serve as liaison to other college units, areas and services, advisory committees, individual students and student groups, and appropriate university, school and community groups. Serve on College and District committees as assigned. May represent the District at state and regional meetings, committees, and conferences.
Travel throughout the service area in carrying out responsibilities and functions.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge Of:
Computer-Based technology for management of assigned divisions/areas and for instructional and instructional support services; the goals of participatory governance; principles and practices of administrative organization and management, planning, supervising and evaluating the work of others, employee motivation and training; applicable federal, state, local, District and College laws, rules and regulations, and collective bargaining contract provisions; complex business level English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation; modern office tools such as computers and printers; typical modern office computer software programs; report and presentation writing; sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Ability To:
Use organizational skills that enable performance of duties in a timely fashion with attention to detail; effectively communicate orally and in writing; manage financial resources effectively including determining how best to utilize resources and managing budgets and expenditures; use personal computers utilizing typical office software applications, including the Internet; work effectively with managers, faculty and staff in a participatory governance environment to accomplish the goals and objectives of the college and the assigned divisions or areas; exercise good judgment; demonstrate sensitivity to and ability to work with the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, and gender backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
Possession of a master's degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent; and
One (1) year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrator's assignment; and
Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Desirable Qualifications
1. Teaching and/or student support experience in a career technical education area.
2. Equivalent to at least three years of full-time instructional and instructional support services experience in an institution of higher education.
3. Three or more years in academic leadership positions with increasing responsibility such as Director, Department Chair, Division Chair, or Assistant Dean.
4. Work experience in a Career Education field.
5. Work experience in a Community College setting.

6. Has demonstrated experience in the following areas:
a. Supporting and collaborating with program specific accreditation and re accreditation processes.
b. Supporting faculty in the development of career education curriculum.
c. Using a collegial and collaborative approach in decision-making to build consensus.
d. Communicating effectively and constructively and supporting people who are diverse in their culture, language groups, and abilities.
e. Developing and assessing student learning outcomes.
f. Managing projects, grants, and budgets.
g. Collaborating campus-wide to create an educational environment that supports student success, effectively leading to educational goal attainment.
h. Assisting and participating in the preparation, planning and execution of career education industry advisory board meetings.

I. Knowledge of or experience with CTE Consortium or equivalent.

PHYSICAL EFFORT/WORK ENVIRONMENT

Environment: Busy office environment. Light to moderate physical effort; occasional standing or walking; periodic handling of lightweight parcels up to 15 pounds. Indoor work environment. Driving a vehicle to conduct work as necessary. Requires evening and weekend responsibility. Required travel to District sites and occasional travel to other locations in the county or state.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

Possess or ability to obtain a valid California driver's license and must have an acceptable driving record and current vehicle insurance meeting State of California requirements.

Proof of Vaccination

New employees may begin working in their assignments only after the District has received proof that the person is fully vaccinated or an exemption has been approved.

Work Schedule
Exempt level position, 12 months per year.
This position is located in Monterey, California.

Salary Information
Starting Salary: $11,538 (Step A) - $12,372 (Step C) per month, depending upon experience and qualifications + GREAT BENEFITS PACKAGE (no additional costs for benefits)

Salary is pending Board approval on July 27th, 2022
