About Children of Promise, NYC:

Children of Promise, NYC reimagines a just society that values the purpose of every child impacted by mass incarceration and removes barriers to create opportunities for children to thrive and achieve their human potential.

Founded in 2009, CPNYC is a community-centered organization that partners with children and youth impacted by parental incarceration. Recognizing the unique emotional trauma and profound psychological consequences children experience in association with the adverse childhood experience (ACE) of losing a parent to incarceration, CPNYC has successfully developed an innovative model, the only one of its kind in New York City, which co-locates a licensed mental health clinic and children’s center, while also offering a comprehensive array of youth development programming in its Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn and South Bronx locations.

CPNYC is a growing organization with over 50 full-time and part-time employees that work in the Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn and South Bronx locations. Throughout COVID, we have been on the frontline providing programs, resources, and services. We have expanded our team to build our organization as we aim to partner with more children and their families.

Location: Brooklyn or Bronx with a hybrid/remote schedule

About the Position:

The Director of Development and Partnerships leads our fundraising, communications, and partnership efforts to help take the organization to the next level of visibility and engagement. This has been a time of growth for CPNYC, and we seek a visionary, self-directed nonprofit professional to engage individuals, corporations, and foundations, along with partnering with our team of seasoned communications strategists.

The dynamic candidate will oversee fundraising strategies and tactics and will work closely with key staff, stakeholders, PR Firm, graphic designer, and they will manage the DevoComms Department. The Director of Development and Partnerships is a hands-on leader who will develop, implement, and oversee strategic fundraising and communication campaigns, community engagement and special events to reach revenue goals. In this role, the Director of Development and Partnership will work in collaboration with the organization’s PR Firm and the team to shape the communication strategy. The ideal candidate will network and build relationships with people in the criminal justice reform movement and will seek opportunities for community, business, corporate and institutional partnerships. This individual will create opportunities to organize panel events, seek speaking engagements for the CEO and other key staff, and will serve as an ambassador for CPNYC

Major Responsibilities:

This highly energized leader who will help raise $3 million towards the organizations $5.6 million budget. Create and implement a development and communication plan that will increase funding, grow, and diversify the funding base.

Nonprofit Development Management:

  • Manage the development and communications team, and work effectively with consultants, finance, and program teams.
  • Work Senior Vice President of Organizational Development & Initiatives and CEO.
  • Work in partnership with the Fundraising Committee and Marketing Committee of the Board of Directors, Young Professionals Council and Women in Philanthropy.

Corporate Partnership:

  • Leverage relationships with corporations and work to identify and cultivate new corporate partnership opportunities
  • Build a pipeline of potential corporate partners and work with the team to create touch point, materials, and pitches for engagement
  • Work with the Board of Directors, Young Professionals Council and Women in Philanthropy to identify potential corporate partners
  • Maximize corporate volunteer experiences when employees participate in Days of Service
  • Create touch points for corporate partners to stay connected and engage with the organization
  • Investigate corporate foundation opportunities

Individual Giving:

  • Participate in the budget process and funding plan for the organization
  • Support the CEO and SVP of Organizational Development & Initiatives in supporting their fundraising
  • Identify, cultivate, and track major donors and develop strategies of engagement to build donor partnership relationships
  • Guide the Board and fundraising committees to maximize relationships and support solicitation strategies
  • Create a communication plan to engage individual donors
  • Strategize and develop a plan to identify and engage new donors
  • Leverage opportunities to build our monthly giving program
  • Develop a regular schedule of donor cultivation and stewardship strategies and tactics
  • Review and refine individual donor, annual giving, and Board fundraising campaigns

Foundation Grants:

  • Work with Grants Manager and senior leadership to build a pipeline of private, family foundations and corporate foundations
  • Identify, cultivate, and work with the Grants Manager to track major institutional funding relationships; and explore grant opportunities with foundations and corporate foundations
  • Establish meetings with foundation leads, and engage foundation in program thought leadership activities
  • Ensure the development of prospects, and consistent and timely submissions of grant proposals and reports.
  • Work with the finance and program teams to provide budgets, data reports, and supporting documents for submission and reporting.

Special Events:

  • Partner with the team to create and special events strategies to engage donors, corporate and community support
  • Leverage special events to raise the organization’s brand, visibility and engagement; and work with the event planners to produce and execute
  • Liaison with the Board of Directors and Young Professional Council Work to ensure DevoComms provides support to their special event activities

Communications:

  • Work closely with the team and PR firm to create and manage a communication and outreach program to elevate CPNYC’s brand and engage the media, new donors, partners, funders, volunteers, and mentors
  • Partner with PR Firm to coordinate media opportunities
  • Coordinate interviewing and storytelling with the scholars, family and the CPNYC team
  • Ensure consistent and regular engagement on digital platforms, email communication and work with graphic team on public education and marketing materials, as well as graphics for social media

Qualifications:

  • Commitment to CPNYC’s vision and mission to provide programs and direct services to children and their families
  • Passionate about and committed to issues related to human rights and social justice
  • Demonstrated fundraising accomplishments in the areas of individuals, corporate and foundations work
  • Self-directed, innovative, strategic thinking, and top-notch project management skills
  • Excellent communications and the ability to tell a compelling story to diverse audiences
  • Experience working with Boards and committees
  • Competent, strong project manager with the ability to handle multiple assignments with tight deadlines
  • Successful in developing relationships and partnerships
  • Experience producing and managing special events
  • Adept at digital and social media strategies and platforms
  • Relevant experience working with confidential information; extremely high reliability and integrity
  • Experience in overseeing databases and software to run development and communication operations
  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree.
  • A minimum of 5 to 7 years of development and communications in the nonprofit sector

COMPENSATION:

Commensurate with the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate the salary

range is $110,000 - $125,000 per annum. CPNYC provides an excellent benefits package including health, dental, vision, life insurance, 403B Plan, and the opportunity to make an impact in the lives of marginalized Black and Brown children and youth in New York City.
