About the Role:

The Executive Vice President for Campaigns and Programs is a critical senior position that reports directly to the President/CEO. The EVP is responsible for the overall management and strategic direction and impact of The Leadership Conference campaigns and programs and manages the Campaigns and Programs Department. The role embodies the highest level of program related strategy and execution, driving and ensuring the overall success of our advocacy work.

What You Will Do:


Strategy development and execution:

  • Oversee strategy development and execution of our overall organizational program and campaigns work, as well as issue-based initiatives, from the ideation, approval, development and through implementation and evaluation.
  • Ensure (directly or indirectly) that the strategy development and execution is coordinated internally and with the coalition.
  • Coach staff to effectively contribute to impact-oriented strategy development and implementation and to support, build and navigate complex coalition relationships and challenges.
  • Responsible for ensuring there is appropriate structure of programmatic areas and staffing and resourcing of work across all of our program and campaigns to ensure effectiveness.
  • Ensure (directly or indirectly) ongoing evaluation of our program and campaign work to ensure that we are meeting goals, objectives and achieving desired impacts. Supports Program and Campaign Directors to adjust strategies and plans, as appropriate, to meet goals and objectives and achieve desired impacts.

Internal coordination:

  • Overall responsible for ensuring the success of the program and campaign structure, implementation and effectiveness, including strategic coordination with communications and development and operations teams.
  • Design and ensure successful execution of processes to ensure alignment amongst staff who have equities in particular processes and decisions.
  • Drive coordination across all our program and campaign work.

Organizational leadership and organizational spokesperson:

  • Serve as the highest-ranking program staff position under the President/CEO, and a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to address overall organizational issues and help ensure coordination among departments.
  • Work with development staff and the executive office on fundraising initiatives. Pitch funders, as needed.
  • Serve as the organization’s representative on panels, at conferences, and in the media as appropriate.
  • Represent the organization and sometimes serve as a stand-in for the President with high-stakes stakeholders and funders.
  • Serve as the host and public face of our podcast.
  • Work with the Executive Vice President/COO, and VP of Finance to develop financial estimates for project and departmental budgets.
  • Assist the Executive Vice Presidents in developing strategic short and long-term plans.

What You Will Bring:
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in federal/state programs and policies/issue-based campaigns.
  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree.
  • A proven track record in developing strategic programming and/or campaigns for progressive, civil rights, social justice, or related organization(s) and/or political campaigns.
  • An innovative and collaborative thinker who is able to translate strategic thinking into action.
  • An ability to work with multi-issue, intra-departmental campaigns and teams and community leaders.
  • An ability to lead, build, and participate in teams including a willingness to circulate widely, communicate openly, listen well, and learn from others.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, including the ability to develop talent and foster a positive and creative work environment.
  • Working knowledge of and sophistication about public policy and research that undergird issue-based campaigns and intellectual curiosity.
  • Excellent judgment and follow-through.

Salary Range – $190,000.00 - $225,000.00

Office Re-opening Statement

Our office is open. During the Covid-19 pandemic, staff have the option to work from the office or home. We anticipate that staff will return to the office in some capacity later this year.
