As an Accounting instructor, you know what it takes to become an accounting professional. You bring your passion for accounting software and financials by teaching classes in general business practices, critical thinking skills and data analyzation. You also help students prepare for industry certifications such as the Booking Certification. The Accounting Instructor teaches RTC’s two year accounting degree curriculum, working closely with other program faculty and local business partners as well as the program’s advisory committee. In addition to primary instructional duties, the Accounting instructor performs professional duties including, but not limited to maintaining office hours and advising students, professional development, serving on departmental and college committees, and other related duties as outlined in the Renton Federation of Teachers collective bargaining agreement. This full-time tenure track position is responsible for 40 hours per week of instruction and related professional duties in our daytime Accounting program. Teaching assignment may include web-enhanced, online or hybrid courses. Applications received by Thursday July 28th will receive priority consideration. This position is represented by the Renton Federation of Teachers (RFT) Employees Association. This full-time tenure track position is scheduled to commence Fall Quarter 2022, continuing with annual 9 month academic year contracts (summer quarter separate). Degree stipend also provided, dependent on level awarded.

Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions Include
  • Demonstrate multicultural competence (including an awareness and understanding of historically minoritized populations) and create an educational and work environment that affirms commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Provide leadership in working to improve access and successful educational outcomes for diverse student populations, especially underrepresented and underserved groups.
  • Support the College’s mission by creating a learning environment of mutual respect and fairness, while encouraging creative and critical thinking through an equity lens.
  • Develop and update the curriculum as required by the College to respond to industry trends and to improve equitable student outcomes.
  • Design inclusive instructional strategies, including classroom, small groups and individualized instruction, to reach all students, and select and evaluate the materials needed to implement these strategies.
  • Evaluate student progress towards attaining the learning outcomes, including thoughtfully designed individual assignments, projects, quizzes, and standardized tests.
  • Maintain and submit student records, documentation, and program reports, including assessment reports.
  • Maintain office hours convenient to students.
  • In collaboration with the Information Technology department, ensure that the classroom lab environment is maintained and up-to-date.
  • Assist in the development of cooperative education and internship opportunities for students with varied backgrounds and career goals.
  • Actively participate in, develop, and maintain effective working relationships with the program advisory committee and enhance advisory committee representation by developing close ties with the local business community.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with students and staff.
  • Serve on department and College governance committees.
  • Participate in campus events and student recruitment activities.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated leadership or participation in institutional programs with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical, and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working / learning environment.
  • Master’s degree in Business, Accounting, or Business Education is required.
  • A minimum of two years of recent, successful work experience in the accounting field required.
  • Knowledge and use of QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel required.
  • Knowledge of general ledger and small business accounting, including income tax and payroll required.
  • Certified Bookkeeper or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
  • Ability to design learning experiences that are interactive and respectful of cultural differences.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals whose first language is not English.
  • Ability to work effectively and engage with adult learners.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote universal design and accessibility. Proficiency in (or ability to learn within 6 months of hire) the production of accessible content, whether print or electronic.
  • Have taken, or after initial employment begin taking, professional-technical teacher training courses
  • Ability to represent the college in a positive and professional manner, while using tact, discretion and courtesy.
  • Ability to speak a regionally top spoken language other than English preferred (Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Somali, and Chinese).
