Job Description

Description

Are you looking to work on complex challenges, applying advanced systems engineering and software engineering concepts in a digital environment?

Are you a "systems thinker" with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) experience who is looking to have an impact on the future of our nation’s defense programs?

Are you searching for a collaborative, diverse work environment where you can innovate and apply state of the art systems engineering practices to cutting edge programs?

If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL!

We are seeking a systems engineer looking to apply advanced digital engineering skills such as model based systems engineering (MBSE), software development, visualization of complex data, cognitive engineering, game theory, statistics, and/or advanced mathematics. As a trusted agent for the Government, we provide vital mission engineering, systems engineering, and software engineering expertise to nationally important precision strike capabilities for the Department of Defense. As a member of our team, you will provide MBSE expertise to develop and utilize complex system models to support parametric analyses, data analysis and visualization, trade studies, web-based visualizations, software development, and modeling and simulation. With your help, we will remain at the forefront of mission and digital engineering as well as pave the future of adaptive cross-domain warfare.

As a Digital Systems Engineer...

  • Your primary responsibility will be to apply mission engineering and systems engineering principles through thought leadership and expertise to the design, development, and evaluation of complex precision strike systems through systems modeling, parametric analyses, and design trades, and visualization of complex data using advanced digital engineering and MBSE processes and techniques.
  • You will apply your systems engineering expertise on requirements analysis, concept/technology development, architecture analysis, risk assessments, and test & evaluation for precision strike systems.
  • You will deliver formal presentations to sponsors and supporting contractors, and effectively communicate proposed concepts/solutions and analysis results.
  • You will develop model profiles, tool plug-ins, architecture frameworks, and model queries in MBSE tools that capture and analyze models of the systems being developed throughout their lifecycle from concept definition through fielding and and support.
  • You will develop concepts to tie together systems models, analytical tools and visualization environments to support the development of digital threads across systems’ lifecycle.
  • You will develop innovative digital engineering and mission engineering solutions to critical challenges.
  • You will apply software development to complex digital engineering and/or visualization challenges.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, or another related technical field.
  • Have at least five years of relevant experience in systems engineering work.
  • Have experience in early concept development, developing system requirements, performing functional analysis and allocation, and conducting trade studies in support of the design, development, and evaluation of complex systems.
  • Have experience in system modeling using UML/SysML and associated modeling software such as Cameo, Rhapsody, or SPARX EA.
  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong critical thinking skills.
  • Have shown the ability to interact effectively with diverse, multidisciplinary teams, including industry and Government sponsors.
  • Are able to obtain a Secret security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a Government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
