Job Description

Description

Have you led teams conducting high impact data science, moving ideas from research to the real world to improve national health?

Do you want to be at the forefront of transforming the ability of our nation to respond to emerging biological threats today and in the future?

Are you prepared to influence strategic government priorities to secure the health and security of the nation through groundbreaking advances in detection, characterization, and medical countermeasures?

If so, we are looking for someone like you to join our team at APL.

We are seeking a Senior Data Scientist to play a leading role in APL's future in biological defense and health security. Building upon a rich legacy in biosurveillance, biodefense, and public health, we seek to hire an innovator who will bring together data scientists with biologists to glean new insights and develop new capabilities from research initiatives. APL works across USG sponsors to apply the full spectrum of science and engineering to improve the nation's ability to mitigate biological threats to national security and health. The successful candidate will influence research priorities, build and lead interdisciplinary teams, and pursue bold ideas for transformative impact through internal research initiatives and in partnership with diverse US government agencies.

As a PhD Senior Data Scientist - Biostatistics...

  • Your primary responsibility will be to shape and advance a cross-cutting strategy toward groundbreaking advances in national and global security against threats posed by infectious disease and emerging biotechnologies.
  • You will lead the development of new research proposals to pursue high-risk, high-reward ideas and transition successes to real world impact.
  • You will build and lead strong teams with APL scientists and engineers to develop and deliver effective solutions to civilian and military sponsors in our National Health and Homeland Protection mission areas.
  • You will champion opportunities to bring together data science and biology, building partnerships with scientists and engineers across APL, the other divisions of JHU, and the wider research community.
