Job Description

Post-Doctoral Scholar- Life and Environmental Sciences

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral researcher position in the Blois Lab in the Department of Life and Environmental Sciences at University of California, Merced. The successful candidate will work on an NSF-funded project and conduct research in the area of Quaternary vertebrate assemblage age modeling and modeling biodiversity across millennial time scales. Specifically, the candidate will (1) locate new data (new sites, new dates) to integrated into the Neotoma Paleoecology Database using a combination of approaches (traditional and data mining searches for new data, integration of data from other databases); (2) revise vertebrate chronologies in Neotoma; (3) analyze the vertebrate faunal data; and (4) collaborate closely with the project team to guide other simulation and modeling projects.

This position is part of a larger project in collaboration with Dr. Marta Jarzyna at The Ohio State University. The overall goal of the project is to elucidate spatial and temporal non-stationarity of processes structuring communities. The project will leverage the fossil record of small mammals across the late Quaternary, simulations and species distribution modeling techniques, and trait datasets for small mammals.
