Job Description

Yale-NUS College is a highly selective liberal arts and science college in Singapore. Co-founded by Yale University and the National University of Singapore, the College is committed to excellence in research and teaching in a full residential programme that integrates living and learning. Its curriculum educates students in Asian and Western intellectual traditions as well as current scientific thought.

The College seeks to hire a full-time Lecturer in Philosophy. The successful candidate is expected to teach at least five courses in the Academic Year 2022/2023, all within the Philosophy major. The appointment will be for one year, beginning in August 2022. If curricular needs require it, the College will consider the option of an extension to the one-year appointment.

Faculty receive highly competitive salaries. Yale-NUS College is located in Singapore, a multicultural city of six million at the heart of a vibrant region.

Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g., Philosophy) is required.
  • A proven record of excellent teaching at the college level and a commitment to effective creative pedagogical approaches for undergraduate teaching will be an advantage.

Applications should consist of the following: a cover letter explaining why the position at Yale-NUS is of interest; a full curriculum vitae; a teaching portfolio with sample classroom exercises and/or syllabi and recent student teaching evaluations (peer teaching evaluations are optional); a statement of teaching philosophy; and three reference letters. Shortlisted candidates will be asked to submit a video sample of classroom teaching and will give a thirty-minute online talk about their research and teaching interests, along with a Q&A session to which all Humanities faculty will be invited.
