Job Description

  • The Fellow will be trained in anatomy to teach at the Cherokee Nation satellite location; trained in research methods (Native American Health Disparities), publishing, grant writing (CHS and OSU resources), service and outreach, and Cherokee culture.

    The expectations for a Post-doctoral Fellow in the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology of Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences include teaching, research, and scholarly activities. The Fellow will be supervised by a faculty member in the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology. The Fellow’s teaching and research goals should complement those of the faculty supervisor. The Fellow’s primary teaching duties will be team-teaching of Clinical Anatomy in the College of Osteopathic Medicine. A Professor of Anatomy (Kent Smith, Ph.D.) will guide the Fellow’s primary teaching duties. Additional teaching duties must be approved by the Fellow’s supervisor. Office and laboratory spaces for the Fellow will be provided by the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Cherokee Nation.

    The Fellow’s teaching duties will include participating in:
  • Lecturing in Clinical Anatomy (two selected by faculty supervisor)
  • Teaching in all laboratory sessions
  • Participating in writing didactic unit examinations (lecture) and setting up lab practicals
  • Proctoring of examinations
  • Holding office hours each week (5 hours/week) during fall semester
  • Mentoring medical and graduate students enrolled in Clinical Anatomy
  • The Fellow’s research and scholarly activities will include:
  • Submitting at least one research proposal for extramural funding
  • Submitting at least one research article to a peer-reviewed journal
  • Attending professional meetings in area of expertise
  • Presenting research at professional meetings
  • Mentoring research students working under the guidance of the faculty supervisor
  • The Fellow will be evaluated on an annual basis by the faculty supervisor. Additional activities must be approved by the faculty supervisor. If the Fellow continues in a second year, additional lectures (up to six) for Clinical Anatomy will be expected. The Fellow’s research and scholarly activities will be expected to continue in the second year. The faculty supervisor, however, may modify the Fellow’s goals for research and scholarly activities for the second year.

Position Qualifications:

Required:

Ph.D. / Ed.D. in Anatomy and Cell Biology or related.

Skills, Proficiencies, and Knowledge:

Has demonstrated experience effectively collaborating with multiple researchers and dealing with complex datasets. Competence in using a variety of software packages to analyze and present data. Ability to communicate data and results in a clear, concise manner. Ability to communicate clearly in writing, as well as verbally with an interdisciplinary team of investigators. Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records. Excellent analytical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred:
  • Track record of published papers in refereed journals.
  • Ability to present research findings at national and international conferences.
