Required Qualifications

• Ph.D. in a human services, health/rehabilitation or education-related field(education or special education, social work, psychology, public health etc.), and must be conferred by date of hire.
• An in-depth knowledge of a variety of community living options for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
• 1-2 years of experience working within a research environment as part of interdisciplinary team.
• 1-2 years of experience working with persons with disabilities either in a research or direct care context.
• A knowledge of basic research protocols for the conduction of both qualitative and quantitative research.
• Ability to work both independently as well as a member of a research team.

Preferred Qualifications

• Successful completion of graduate level coursework in disability and related content areas.
• Experience in assisting with the management of data sets.
• Experience with a variety of qualitative and quantitative data analysis techniques.

Position Overview

The University’s Institute on Community Integration (ICI) is looking to fill 1-3 1.00 FTE post-doctoral associate positions available for the 2022/2023 season. Applications are accepted all year long with appointments typically starting in the fall (Sept/Oct) and/or Spring (Jan/Feb) semesters. Individuals in these positions will have the opportunity to work on a variety of research and demonstration projects based on their research interests focused on enhancing the community living outcomes of persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Positions are for a 1- or 2-year period. Potential projects on which Associates might work include, but are not limited to: analysis of secondary data sets pertaining to persons with IDD, refinement and validation of a family caregiver survey; evaluation of the impact of smart home technology on self-determination and social inclusion; policy-related research; as well as investigations focused on the competitive and supported employment of persons with disabilities; direct support and front line supervisor workforce issues, etc. Based upon their area(s) of interest, Associates with be paired with an experienced researcher with whom they will work with over the course of their post-doctoral position. These ICI staff will serve in a mentorship and support role over the course of the post-doc experience.

Job Responsibilities

Quantitative Research (50%)

• Implementation of a variety of pilot and field studies that may be of a cross-sectional or longitudinal nature using a number of different quantitative designs including single subject, quasi-experimental, randomized control trial, and regression discontinuity approaches. Responsibilities will include supporting project staff with most aspects of grant implementation, including data collection, management, and analysis.

Qualitative Research (15%)

• Case studies of related to policy issues pertinent to persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Training (15%)

• Post-doctoral associates will be supported through their work at ICI, supervision and mentoring as well as be required to take additional coursework. Offered both through the Institute on Community Integration’s Disability Policy and Services Certificate Program as well as other coursework offered through the UMN’s College of Education and Human Development. Individuals in this position will also have opportunities to present at state and national conferences.

Grant Development (10%)

• Associates will work with experienced ICI principal investigators in the community living area on grant proposal preparation to acquire a knowledge of all aspects of grantsmanship including, but not limited to conceptualization and development of ideas for proposals; generation of hypotheses and research questions, selection of appropriate research designs, methodologies, and analyses; budgeting, grant evaluation/progress monitoring; and knowledge translation and dissemination strategies.

Product Development and Dissemination (10%)

• Associates will contribute to the development of products on the grants on which they select to work assisting with materials development, generation of technical reports and web-based information dissemination as well as articles for submission to peer-reviewed journals.
