Organizational Overview


Quantum Information Science (QIS) is an emerging area in the BNL portfolio with considerable investment from the Lab, DOE, and NY State over the last years. The lab has arranged several joint appointments for prominent QIS experts and also hired junior staff with QIS backgrounds. The work is being done on multiple fronts in several departments, employing state-of-the-art equipment. BNL is also participating in several QIS collaborations to build the critical mass of QIS experts and modern technologies across the country.

Position Description


The Physics Department at Brookhaven National Laboratory invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate with a two-year term. The successful candidate will work on projects to apply principles of quantum imaging and quantum information science (QIS) to investigate a range of applications from x-ray bioimaging to optical astronomy.This position has a high level of interaction with an international and multicultural scientific community. This position will be a direct report to Andrey Nomerotski.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform research in the field of quantum optics and QIS to investigate applications from x-ray bioimaging to optical astronomy
  • Publish research results and conduct presentations at meetings and conferences

Position Requirements


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • PhD in Physics
  • Background in quantum optics and optical instrumentation
  • Clear and concise written and oral communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based research environment
  • Demonstrated track record of publication of research in high quality peer-reviewed journals and presentations

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Programming and Data Analysis skills

OTHER INFORMATION:

  • BNL policy requires that after obtaining a PhD, eligible candidates for research associate appointments may not exceed a combined total of 5 years of relevant work experience as a post-doc and/or in an R&D position, excluding time associated with family planning, military service, illness, or other life-changing events.
  • Initial 2-year term appointment subject to renewal contingent on performance and funding
