The Minnesota Youth Athletic Services, Inc. (MYAS) was originated in 1991 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the delivery of youth sports services to young athletes, coaches and parents. The MYAS is Minnesota's largest multi-sport organization focused solely on youth athletics with more than 150,000 kids participating in our programs annually. The MYAS is a central clearinghouse for youth sports, serving as an information channel linking hundreds of youth associations, coaches and thousands of parents.


WAGE/HOURS

  • The wage and hours for the position vary depending upon the duration and size of the tournament.
  • We offer one-, two-, and three-day tournaments. It is possible to earn $400+ for a tournament.
  • The majority of the opportunities would be in the spring and summer months with limited fall and winter opportunities available.
  • We would prefer that the tournament directors would be available 1-3 weekends per month during the busier spring and summer months.
  • This is a part-time, seasonal position. Therefore, MYAS tournament directors are not eligible for any MYAS employee benefits.
NATURE OF WORK

Tournament directors are responsible for:
  • The complete on-site setup and tear down of all provided materials including tournament brackets, sponsorship advertising, rules, directional signage and more.
  • Checking in teams prior to their participation to ensure that they comply with the participation rules for that tournament.
  • Ensuring the duties of the host group and officials are being adequately covered.
  • Communication with coaches, players and fans.
  • Handing out trophies or other awards.
  • Updating scores.
  • Handling situations with weather, complaints, and other issues as they arise.
  • Picking up the tournament supplies at the MYAS office, typically on Friday morning, and dropping them off on Monday.
  • Positively conducting yourself as an MYAS representative.

TRAINING

  • Full training, including spending a tournament as a paid assistant to a veteran tournament director, is provided for all new tournament directors.

DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • General sports knowledge with a higher level of familiarity of the sports of basketball and baseball
  • Ability to express themself clearly and concisely
  • Ability to communicate and respond effectively with the public

DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

  • Completion of or working toward a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Administration or Parks and Recreation or related program is preferred but not required
  • Experience working in recreation, sports or related field
