Vice President of Development

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Vice President of Development is a member of the Executive leadership team and is responsible for the execution of the organizations strategic and long-range planning associated with the organizations resource development efforts. The Vice President is responsible for creating, managing, and promoting board approved resource development programs and relationships that yield dollars in support of PHFHs mission of building homes, communities and hope in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties.

In concert with the CEO, the VP of Development drives and facilitates the integration of innovative problem solving into the business culture. The VP actively researches and identifies new opportunities for growth and internally and externally drives planning activities in response. This position is responsible for vetting ideas and qualifying opportunities, and then examines the correlating development process to secure both internal and external resources in support.

The VP is an internal advisor to other management colleagues to support department planning and to discuss business challenges and opportunities as they arise, recommending prioritization, options and subsequent action. The VP is frequently called upon by the CEO and Board leadership to discuss strengths and opportunities that impact the direction of the organization short and long term.

The VP of Development reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

In support of the CEO, develop budgets and fundraising plans for outreach and advocacy;

Represents PHFH in varied communities to build a stronger network of informed, action-oriented PHFH allies in local and regional government, partner organizations, and funders;

Establish an annual development plan for raising funds from all sectors; including direct donations, in-kind gifts, special events, annual giving campaigns, planned giving, foundations and grants;

Establish a successful volunteer engagement plan recruiting and retaining volunteers from all areas of Escambia and Santa Rosa counties;

Work closely with the CEO to identify, initiate, cultivate, and retain external relationships with individuals and organizations in all sectors including but not limited to individual donors and local foundation, civic organization, faith communities, corporate, not-for-profit, and governmental representatives to bring support and specific resources to benefit the mission of Pensacola Habitat for Humanity;

Monitor the Volunteer Services arm of the affiliate and the ReStore to ensure exceptional volunteer experiences. Promote these experiences to recruit and retain volunteers and to grow volunteer into donors;

Represent the affiliate in conjunction with the CEO for all speaking engagements;

Annual budget creation with CEO, CFO and Finance and Executive Committee;

Manage all aspects of the federal and state application process for funding from the following programs: Community Contribution Tax Credit Program, Self-Help Home Ownership Program (SHOP), NeighborWorks America, New Market Tax Credit application, Capital Magnet Fund and all opportunities from Habitat for Humanity Intl.; and other identified sources.

Direct, train, manage, and evaluate a team of professional staff. (Communications Manager, Resource Development Manager, Volunteer Services Manager);

Engage local faith-based organizations, corporate entities and the general community in volunteer experiences. Oversee the operation of scheduled 'Special Build' events to include Women Build and Faith Build annually;

Oversee planning and implementation of the annual Pensacola Habitat Food Truck Festival to include staffing of committee meetings, securing sponsorships, and making the event a successful fundraiser. Additionally, the PHFTF should connect the community to the Pensacola Habitat for Humanity mission;

Oversee publication of all communications materials; (HabiChat, Volunteer newsletter, mortgage statement inserts, social media content on all channels, flyers, program information) work closely with staff from all departments to ensure organization-wide communication needs are fulfilled; ensure timely, effective, and error-free communications. Ensure that the affiliate and the ReStore website and multiple event pages are audited regularly and information stays current;

Manage the Development department to ensure timely acknowledgements for all donations; This includes ReStore donors of in-kind goods as well as monetary donors;

Develop and implement advocacy events and activities to broaden community awareness of current trends in affordable housing and community development;

Attend monthly meetings of the board of directors and scheduled board and program committee meetings, as well as scheduled staff and management meetings;

Oversee and support the activity of the governing board’s Resource Development Committee;

Other duties as assigned by the CEO.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • Organizing, planning, and budgeting skills.
  • Excellent computer skills with knowledge of Office 365, knowledge of Salesforce is a plus.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE:

  • College degree required, advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of nonprofit development and management experience required, fundraising credentials desirable.
  • Must have experience in writing/editing for general publication as well as experience in technical grant preparation (writing samples required with application).
  • Must be experienced and comfortable managing multiple complex projects simultaneously.
  • Must have experience supervising subordinate staff, both compensated and non-compensated.
  • Must be able to work with persons from every level of the community with respect and dignity.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

This position is primarily preformed in an office setting and may require sitting for long periods of time. On occasion, this employee will work on jobsites and perform other tasks that will require repetitive lifting of up to 25lbs.
