Job Description

A postdoctoral research position is at Yale-NUS College and the Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT).

The research focus is on theoretical studies of the physical resource costs of quantum computing, with considerations spanning from fundamental thermodynamic requirements to practical experimental demands, and from small-scale NISQ devices to full-stack large-scale quantum computers.

The position is expected to start between August and October 2022, and will be for two years. The successful candidate will work on a Singapore-France collaborative project with Alexia Auffèves (MajuLab, Singapore and Institut Néel, Grenoble), Hui Khoon Ng (CQT and Yale-NUS, Singapore) and Robert Whitney (LPMMC, Grenoble). The postdoc will work with all three members of the collaboration, with regular visits between France and Singapore, and the opportunity to work with each other and other members of the France and Singapore teams.

Requirements

The candidates should have a strong background in quantum information science, with a good grasp of quantum computing implementations, as well as the interest and ability to work closely with experimentalists to understand the intricacies of building quantum computing devices. Past work on quantum error correction and fault tolerance will be a strong plus point.

Yale-NUS College is a highly selective liberal arts and science college in Singapore. Co-founded by Yale University and the National University of Singapore, the College is committed to excellence in research and teaching in a full residential programme that integrates living and learning. Its curriculum educates students in Asian and Western intellectual traditions as well as current scientific thought.

CQT (http://www.quantumlah.org) is a National Research Centre of Excellence hosted at the National University of Singapore. The Centre comprises some 150 research staff and students, working in all areas of quantum information science. Yale-NUS College (http://www.yale-nus.edu.sg) is an undergraduate college, jointly founded by Yale University and the National University of Singapore, emphasizing a liberal arts and sciences education, with a commitment to building a strong research base at an early stage for science majors.

LPMMC (https://lpmmc.cnrs.fr/) is a small friendly theoretical physics research laboratory with about 30 research staff and students, working on a variety of topics in theoretical physics. We are leading members of the Grenoble Quantum Foundation (https://quantalps.univ-grenoble-alpes.fr/), which forms one of France’s main poles for research in quantum science and quantum engineering, with about 200 permanent researchers working in quantum computing, quantum simulation, quantum information, quantum sensing, quantum materials, etc.
