Summary of Duties:

The Department of Accounting in the Carson College of Business at Washington State University is seeking qualified candidates for one full-time permanent tenure-track position in Accounting on the Pullman WA campus starting in August 2023. The rank is open, and although we anticipate hiring at the assistant level, we are open to higher ranks for candidates with significant experiencing teaching at nationally or international recognized universities. Consistent with an institutional priority of Washington State University, we seek applicants who are committed to furthering an environment of diversity, equity, and inclusion among faculty, students and the broader university community.

Duties include teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in accounting, including online courses. The successful candidate is expected to conduct accounting research resulting in publications in high-quality academic journals, take an active role working with doctoral students and make other service contributions to the department, college, university, community, and profession commensurate with rank.

Department of Accounting:

The Department of Accounting provides an exceptional work environment with highly supportive colleagues actively engaged in quality research, teaching, and service. The department also provides world-class education to students on three physical campuses (Pullman, Vancouver, Tri-Cities) and online through the WSU Global campus. Additionally, the Accounting Department holds supplemental Accounting accreditation through the AACSB (last renewed in 2019).

Carson College of Business:

The Carson College of Business (CCB) enrolls more than 2,500 undergraduate students and 1,200 online MBA and Executive MBA students combined. The Online MBA program is currently ranked 12th by Poets and Quants and 18th by U.S. News and World Report. The college has 92 full-time faculty across its campuses and 75 staff. WSU has a set goal to advance the college's commitment to diversity and multiculturalism with respect to research, teaching and community outreach, incorporating relevant programs, goals, and activities. A strong global perspective is encouraged. To promote global awareness and capability for our students, the college also offers faculty-led study abroad programs in Belize, China, Egypt, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Romania & Croatia, Spain Switzerland, and Thailand. In addition, CCB has invested in a state-of-the-art Center for Behavioral Business Research (CBBR), which opened in early 2010.

Washington State University:

Founded in 1890 in Pullman, WSU is the state of Washington's land-grant institution and one of the country's top public research universities. WSU has an enrollment of over 31,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students and approximately 6,300 faculty and staff at its five campuses (Pullman, Spokane, Tri-Cities, Vancouver, and Everett), and online through its Global Campus. Unlike most multi-campus systems, WSU operates as an integrated university; thus, regardless of campus location, all accounting faculty are full members of the accounting department. The business curricula at all five campuses are accredited as one curriculum by the AACSB (AACSB accreditation was renewed for five years in 2019).

WSU is a premier research institution, ranked as a "very high research activity" (R1) by the Carnegie Foundation, with ambitions to grow. The university is currently pursuing its goal of becoming one of the nation's top 25 public research universities by 2030 through its "Drive to 25" or "D25" initiative. D25 is the University's highest strategic priority.

Pullman, WA:

Pullman is located in the rolling hills of the scenic Palouse region of Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho and is ranked as one of the best cities to live in Washington State. Pullman is eight miles from Moscow, Idaho, home to the University of Idaho, and is served by the Pullman-Moscow Regional Airport which provides daily direct flights to Seattle. Pullman is a quintessential college town offering a blend of sports and entertainment, including the National Lentil Festival, an active farmer's market, and award-winning wineries and breweries. Pullman enjoys a low crime rate, excellent public schools, a mild climate, and close proximity to a variety of outdoor recreational opportunities in and around the rivers, lakes, and mountains of Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho (https://www.visit-pullman.com/; https://visitmoscowid.com).

  • Candidates for Associate and Full Professor rank must demonstrate a track record consistent with rank: a record of continued publication in top-tier Accounting journals, excellence in teaching, and appropriate level of service to the field of accounting. Candidates at all levels must demonstrate a commitment to furthering an environment of diversity, equity and inclusion among faculty, students and the broader university community, including upholding practices and policies of an inclusive environment.
