An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Business Manager who will join the Faculty Operating Service (FOS) team in the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences, and be based in the School of Engineering.

You will work in partnership with the Head of School and School Leadership team, taking the lead on School level initiatives that include analysing data and providing reports that meet the needs of the target audience to support our complex business planning processes, along with maintaining oversight of high level priorities and providing School level communication. You will also have oversight of the support services within the School.

Working closely with the Associate Director of Faculty Operations, you will contribute as a member the Faculty’s senior administrative team to relevant projects with colleagues across the organisation to advance cross-University FOS related initiatives.

To be successful you will:

  • Have highly developed skills in managing and analysing complex data to inform the School’s planning and prioritisation
  • Demonstrate experience of managing business planning processes and coordinating business critical activities as well as experience of managing budgets and oversight of financial processes
  • Demonstrable experience of building and maintaining productive relationships and develop collaborative approaches, including staff management
  • Demonstrate the ability to manage the initiation, planning and execution of multiple strategic projects working in partnership with key stakeholders
  • Be a great team player, with a professional, proactive and committed approach
  • Experience of successfully achieving milestones whilst managing conflicting priorities

The School of Engineering is the largest of the University’s Schools and includes four Departments - Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering; Civil, Maritime and Environmental Engineering; Mechanical Engineering and the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research.

The School’s world-leading facilities include the UK Collaboration for Research on Infrastructure and Cities (UKCRIC) National Infrastructure Laboratory and Hydrodynamics laboratory on the Boldrewood Innovation Campus, Acoustic Chambers, Wind Tunnels and μ-VIS microtomographic imaging suite on Highfield Campus. Research strengths include pioneering activities in the fields of autonomous vehicles, biomedical technologies, energy storage, rail infrastructure and resilience, manufacturing and materials and space technology. The School’s teaching expertise is combined with a practical approach and courses offer students the chance to put theory into practice at the School’s state-of-the-art facilities, with many of the students’ innovative engineering projects showcased at an annual Design Show.
