Wayside is experiencing tremendous growth and is seeking to hire a Director of Communications and Development. This role will build and manage a re-vamped communications and development department of between three and six people. The department will provide Wayside’s organizational operations and 13+ programs with the marketing, public relations, communications and philanthropy strategy and support that is needed.

Salary Range: 90K-120K

A strategic communications planning process has been concluded and Wayside is eager to get started implementing the plan that will make our communications more cohesive and more impactful. The Director of Communications and Development will have both managerial experience and the strategic ability to guide us as we strive to raise our communications to a higher level to better support our programs and our relationships with our communities, our donors, and the families we support now and in the future.
We are looking for an individual who has significant experience both with written communications, multi-pronged strategic communications planning and implementation. Knowledge of various aspects of communications strategy including public relations, marketing, and social media is needed. The ideal candidate has nonprofit experience and is invested in the mental health sector, team leadership skills, and experience with creating a diverse and inclusive culture.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • HeTo further develop and implement our new communications plan and initiatives. We worked with a seasoned communications consultant to determine the next macro steps, now we need your help to implement the plan on the micro level. We’ll still be depending on you for ongoing strategy and evolution of our plans, but we do have a place to start and we’re excited to share it with you!

Drive and facilitate implementation of a cohesive communications plan and strategy that addresses both short and long-term needs. This includes development of organizational messaging and language and leveraging of both traditional and social media. The ideal candidate will be someone who is an excellent manager and who can create systems and protocols and handle multiple projects at once. We need a thriving department to better support our programmatic and operational needs, build stronger relationships, and continue to shine a light on the importance of mental health care.

Partner with Wayside Program Managers to better respond to their unique needs and involve them in strategy development for their specific communities.

  • Manage outreach and marketing budget.
  • Build(over time), oversee and manage a department that may include a database manager, volunteer manager, and not less than one full-time communications associate.
  • Develop and manage marketing and engagement tools and initiatives needed to implement the communications plan and build a network of supporters on many platforms. This is a hands-on Director position and tools and initiatives may include:

othe creation, production, and distribution of printed and on-line materials (collateral, hand-outs, enews, etc.) and mailings to support messaging strategy, program and organizational goals.
othe creation and distribution ofsocial media content and the establishment and implementation of an in-house social media vetting process to ensure various programs are maintaining a cohesive Wayside brand.
othe development of content for the organizational website

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • PrProfessional communications experience in more than one specialty i.e., marketing, public relations, social media, writing, collateral development, website content development, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong relational and collaborative skills. You must enjoy working on a team.

A bachelors degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience developing and delivering communications strategies, using multiple platforms including social media.
Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities and solve problems expeditiously.
Knowledge of basic budgeting best practices, and excellent employment references.
