California State Polytechnic University, Pomona invites applications for a tenure track faculty ASSISTANT PROFESSOR position in the Management and Human Resources Department in an area related to the study and/or promotion of Organizational Behavior, Management, or other strongly related field from an accredited university.

Cal Poly Pomona is one of three polytechnic universities in the 23-campus California State University system and among 11 such institutions nationwide. Student Population. California residents comprise the majority (96%) of applicants to undergraduate programs at Cal Poly Pomona – nearly half (49%) of new students were transfers in Fall 2020. 58% of Cal Poly Pomona students are first generation, 70% receive financial aid, and 44% qualify as Pell-eligible. The university enrolls a diverse student body that identifies as 49% Latinx, 21% Asian, 15% White, 3% Black, 5% International, 3% two or more races, 3% unknown, and less than 1% Native Hawaiian or Native Pacific Islander and less than 1% Native American Indigenous. 39% of the student body were STEM majors with the top enrolled programs including psychology, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, biology and computer science.

Tenure track faculty hires will demonstrate a commitment and record of contributions through their teaching, scholarship, or service to these inclusive excellence criteria (a minimum of two must be addressed in the Student Success Statement):

1. Integrates the values of equity and inclusivity into their teaching, scholarship and/or service contributions with diverse student populations;

2. Incorporates the contributions and struggles of historic ethnic minority groups and communities into their teaching, scholarly work, and/or service contributions;

3. Adopts teaching strategies that support the learning and success of students from diverse student populations;

4. Mentors and engages diverse student populations in discovery, scholarship, and creative activities;

6. Possesses knowledge of challenges and barriers for underrepresented students and faculty within the discipline;

7. Mentors and assists diverse student populations interested in pursuing graduate education;

9. Has experience in or demonstrates a commitment to adopting experiential learning activities and pedagogy with diverse student populations and communities; and

10. Has expertise in or demonstrated commitment to teaching, scholarship and/or service that contributes to access, diversity, and equal opportunity in higher education.

The College of Business Administration: The College of Business Administration offers comprehensive undergraduate programs as well as MBA and MS in Business Administration. The college is located in a $30 million, state-of-the-art, three-building complex that houses over 100 faculty and staff, classrooms, lecture halls, labs, conference rooms, and student club rooms among others. The College is accredited at both the undergraduate and graduate levels by AACSB International.

The MHR Department: MHR is one of six departments in the College of Business Administration, which serves almost 5,000 students. Our students are highly diverse with many first-generation students, a high number of Latinx students, as well as African-American students and students from other minoritized groups. The MHR Department has 15 tenure-track faculty members and more than 1,000 majors. Position Description: The MHR Department seeks a candidate who strives for excellence in both teaching and research in a highly collegial working environment. The new faculty is expected to:

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in organizational behavior, principles of management, and aligned higher level electives.
  • Maintain a well-defined stream of quality management research.
  • Advise students and participate in department, college, university, and professional service.
  • Applicants whose work incorporates a commitment to diversity in higher education are particularly encouraged to apply.

Minimum Requirements Include:

  • An earned doctorate in Organizational Behavior, Management, or other strongly related field from an accredited university. ABD candidates may also apply, but degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.
  • Candidates must have taught commensurate with experience and must provide evidence of working effectively with a diverse student body.
  • Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to publishing in quality peer-reviewed journals in their area of expertise.
  • A commitment and a record of contributions to student success through applicant’s teaching, scholarship, and service. This will be described in the Student Success Statement, which must address at least two of the inclusive excellence criteria listed above.

Preferred/Desired Qualifications:

  • A PhD from a AACSB International accredited business school (or its international equivalent)
  • Experience teaching core management courses, such as Organizational Behavior and Management at the undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Experience teaching upper-level elective management courses, such as Leadership, Negotiation and Conflict Management, Organizational Change and Development, International Management, Ethics, and Diversity Management
  • Evidence of teaching excellence or demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence
  • Experience as an advisor with management student organizations or student case study competitions and/or desire and potential to do so
  • Relevant professional industry experience and/or willingness to develop relationships with the business community
  • Experience in or demonstrated potential to direct a center in a business school
  • Experience in grant writing or understanding of the grant writing application process

Finalists for the position will:

  • Be required to provide official transcripts for highest degree before the on-campus interview
  • Make a research presentation
  • Make a teaching presentation
  • Provide a research writing sample in form of a publication or working paper
