Family Promise of Greater Washington County (FPGWC) is a non-profit organization that provides a wrap-around network of support for families suffering homelessness as they work to achieve and sustain independence. Bringing together the resources of faith communities, government, service agencies, and the local community, we provide a variety of services for families in need. Our mission is to equip families and vulnerable communities to end the cycle of homelessness. Our vision is that EVERY family has a stable place to call home and a chance to build a better future.

FPGWC is seeking to hire an Executive Director (ED) with strong management, program administration and fundraising skills who will lead the organization into the next stage of its development as a human services agency. The ED will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of FPGWC and maintain positive relations with partner entities, stakeholders, investors/donors, and media outlets. Simultaneously the ED will ensure the operational effectiveness of the organization and provide inspiration, leadership and vision to staff, board members, and volunteers. The ideal ED will be creative, analytical, highly organized, an exceptional communicator, with strong writing and public speaking skills, be able to help set the vision and drive growth through collaboration with various partners and stakeholders. Supervision: The ED reports directly to the Board of Directors.

Working Hours: This is a salaried, exempt position. Typical work week is approximately 40 hours; however, staff must be willing to work nights, weekends, and some holidays as needed.

Salary: Commensurate with experience pay range is $85k-$95k plus medical, paid holidays, paid sick time.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Community Relations

  • Build, grow, and maintain positive community/network relationships.
  • Lead recruitment to increase network of hosting and support partners, including new congregations and civic, community groups.
  • Volunteer management including volunteers from civic groups, faith communities, corporate partners and nonprofit organizations.
  • Ensure volunteers are trained, effective, and satisfied in their experience (background checks, training, appreciation, scheduling, engagement).
  • Ensure FPGWC updates are communicated to the network of partners and feedback is solicited.
  • Handle any issues/emergencies swiftly and compassionately (a congregation or civic group exiting the network, a volunteer challenge, a legal/insurance issue, etc.)
  • Increase positive awareness for FPGWC.
  • Ensure that brochures and newsletters are accurate, up to date and provide compelling stories about our families.
  • Maintain web and social media presence.
  • Represent FPGWC to the media, government, corporations, and other nonprofit partners.
  • Build relationships with and regularly communicate with supporting agencies. Actively participate in providers’ groups and other forums. Meet with community organizations to inform them of FPGWC.

Board Relations and Personnel Administration

  • Engage with Board Chair and board committees to execute organizational goals, engaging individual members to utilize skill/expertise for the betterment of the organization, and recruitment of new members.
  • Provide network reports for meetings timely and facilitate and participate in strategic discussions of organization’s future.
  • Work with Board Chair to set meeting agendas. Work with board committees as necessary to follow-up on identified action items.
  • Collaborate with the Finance Committee to develop an annual budget recommendation for the Board and execute an annual audit. Provide leadership, communication and serve as liaison with the Board of Directors and its Committees.
  • Make recommendations to the Board regarding program and policy changes that improve the effectiveness of our program.

Program Development/Administration

  • Oversee the operations, facilities, development, implementation and evaluation of our programs and services.
  • Research & implement best practices in the homeless services field from Family Promise National, NAEH, HUD etc.
  • Develop and work with the Board of Directors to develop long-term plans for program expansion and sustainability of FPGWC.
  • Maintain and oversee data collection and reporting for agency programs.
  • Ensure FPGWC meets organizational outcomes and programs have sufficient resources to deliver on our mission and care for families. Handle any family crisis swiftly and compassionately.
  • Create and implement programs to enhance services provided to clients.
  • Create partnerships in the community that will facilitate positive outcomes for FPGWC case management (landlords, employers, nonprofit partnerships, etc.)

Management

  • Lead a high-preforming organization: volunteers, board, and staff management.
  • Hire and supervise staff and volunteers as organization resources allow in consultation with appropriate Board of Director members.
  • Create annual performance goals for staff. Conduct and document staff reviews at least annually.
  • Provide supervision and feedback as necessary to have a high-preforming team.
  • Supervise Case Management team.
  • Assist with phone calls, screenings, intake interview, determining eligibility of families, and/or disciplinary action to ensure family/volunteer safety when necessary.
  • Ensure case files are in good order and contain information needed for any reporting.

Fundraising, Communication & Resource Management:

  • Pursue appropriate funding opportunities: grants, individual/congregation donations, corporate giving and special events.
  • Create a grant strategy which is regularly reviewed with the Board.
  • Develop and secure funding, including grant research, writing, financial input, data collection/inputting and accountability reporting.
  • Provide timely accountability reports and nurture long-term relationships with all funding sources.
  • Provide updates to donor organizations on the utilization of their gift(s).
  • Work with the Board and volunteers on the development of fundraising events.
  • Establish an infrastructure to accept in-kind donations from donors at all levels.
  • Write monthly newsletters, seasonal appeal letters and annual reports to drive engagement and awareness of FPGWC.
  • Promote an effective, high-visibility and positive public image of our program and our mission.
  • Work with web/graphic designer to maintain up-to-date website and social media efforts.
  • Oversee design of all print material (consistent with our brand) including print material for fundraising campaigns and events.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree/Master's Degree, nonprofit management, interagency experience, business or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly public speaking ability
  • 5+ years of experience working in management, leadership and supervision (non-profit experience a plus)
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with community partners, volunteers, corporations, and boards
  • Demonstrated success in fund development and financial management
  • Knowledge of homeless service provision models and programming, local, state and federal housing authorities, social service agencies and general assistance programs
  • The ability to think creatively and entrepreneurially – we are constantly looking for ways to better our service programs.

Maturity, a sense of humor, compassion and empathy for our guests and an ability to relate to individuals from many different racial, ethnic, religious and class backgrounds.

Additional Requirements

  • Able to lift up to 30 pounds (i.e., accepting donated items at the shelter, assisting a family with moving belongings when they return to housing etc.).
  • Knowledge of basic computer software (Microsoft Suite, Google Drive) and electronic communication tools.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Oregon driver's license, personal vehicle, acceptable auto insurance coverage, and an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to pass criminal background check and test for illegal drug use.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $85,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
