The Chabot-Las Positas Community College District is seeking a Part-Time DSPS Counselor/ Learning Disabilities Specialist for Las Positas College. Applicants will be expected to administer and interpret diagnostic tests and certify new students with learning disabilities; design and implement individual and group supportive instruction and study skills workshops and/or classes for students identified with learning disabilities; and provide academic accommodations
based on diagnostic assessment. Additionally, the Counselor/LDS will provide comprehensive academic, vocational and disability counseling services; provide student planning and support workshops, provide career and transfer advisement.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provide counseling services including the development of educational plans for
graduation and transfer based on a student’s academic and career goals.
2. Communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
3. Conduct diagnostic evaluations of cognitive strengths and weaknesses and help guide
students in effective study strategies.

Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling
OR
Master’s degree in counseling, guidance counseling, student personnel, clinical or counseling psychology, education counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, marriage, family and child counseling, or a Bachelor’s degree in marriage and family and child counseling and possession of a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT); and either 15 or more semester units in upper division or graduate level course work related to
people with disabilities, or completion of six semester units, or the equivalent of a graduatelevel counseling practicum or counseling field work courses, in a post secondary Disabled Students Programs and Services program or in a program dealing with people with disabilities, or two years of fulltime experience, or the equivalent, in one or more of the following:

(A) Counseling for students with disabilities; or

(B) Counseling in industry, government, public agencies, military or private social welfare organizations in which the responsibilities are for persons with disabilities, or the equivalent.

Evidence of understanding of and responsiveness to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, racial and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices
within the classroom.

Desirable Qualifications
1. One (1) year of community college experience.
2. Working knowledge of Title V and other governmental regulations as they apply to students with disabilities.
3. Experience conducting learning disability evaluations following (LDESM).
