Compensation:

Our compensation philosophy is grounded in being competitive, equitable, and transparent.

Competitive: The salary range for this position is $105,600 to 134,400.

Equitable: We avoid negotiation within the ranges to create equity across our team, because we know that salary negotiations lead to poorer outcomes for individuals from non-dominant groups and underrepresented communities.

Transparent: We construct our salaries in such a way that staff can move through the range as they grow within their level. As such, most candidates will start at the midpoint of the range, $120,000, with a few above or below the midpoint based on specific skill sets and experiences.

About the position:

Reporting to the Senior Director, U.S. Program, the Director will be responsible for the successful execution of the Thriving Local Health Center Institute. This institute aims to strengthen California free and charitable clinics' administrative and operational core through the provision of training, technical assistance, and tools, enabling FCCs to provide the best possible care to the marginalized communities in California.

In addition, The Thriving Local Health Center Institute will provide training and support around clinic administration/non-profit management for clinic leaders and medical directors and offer clinical staffing assistance, including translation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support overall project administration, and oversee and manage multiple workgroups in support of initiative strategic plan to ensure deadlines and goals are met or exceeded
  • Organize, attend, and participate in stakeholder meetings in support of project goals
  • Regularly report initiative and program updates to the Senior Director and Vice President, and external committee and workgroup leaders
  • Manage project calendar and important deadlines, and documentation needs
  • Manage project activities and measures of success following the project work plan
  • Manage contracts and complex budgets
  • Document and follow up on essential action items and decisions from meetings
  • Review pertinent correspondence and communications daily to remain current on project details
  • Develop any required donor reports or communications
  • Participate in project/program related meetings
  • Support program staffing needs (e.g., interviewing, hiring, new hire and ongoing training, annual evaluations, etc.)
  • Support the development of new and ongoing funding proposals
  • In partnership with Senior Director and Vice President, U.S. Programs, meet with donors and media to articulate project/program value and impact
  • Develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of local and national health issues impacting safety net organizations and primary care practices
  • Present Americares work at conferences, high-level meetings, and through internal and external publications
  • Other duties as assigned


Key Requirements and Competencies:

  • At least 8 years of experience with project management in a healthcare or human services setting, supervising staff, and leading and cooperating with team members in successful project implementation
  • Demonstrated history of working with executive-level leaders and clinic directors, underserved populations, and in multi-jurisdictional projects
  • Experience working in matrixed, cross-functional environment
  • Understanding of U.S. healthcare safety net; experience with the California Free and Charitable Clinic sector desired
  • Experience with healthcare administration and clinical quality improvement measures
  • Experience in building a community of practice
  • Genuine commitment to community and public health
  • Broad knowledge of public health issues and policies at the local, state, and/or federal level
  • Proficiency in data collection and reporting
  • Exceptional communication and public speaking skills with experience presenting in large and small forums
  • Experience writing grants for state and federal funding and charitable foundations, as well as with RFP development
  • Experience with program design (Theory of Change), implementation, monitoring and evaluation, and quality improvement methods
  • Innate problem-solving skills; curiosity and a thirst for knowledge
  • Ability to travel domestically – up to 10%
  • U.S. work authorization required
  • California state resident preferred
