Position Summary:

The Community College system offers two-year liberal arts degree programs and a broad range of career, occupational and technical certificate and non-credit programs in order to meet the varied learning needs of the populations served. Among those programs are courses in subject areas which prepare students for occupations and careers in fields which support and are adjunct to health care, such as Registered Medical Assistant. The programs include both classroom instruction and allied health practice.

The Programs Coordinator directs the allied health portion of courses in one of such allied health fields at a Community College. The incumbent’s work includes both allied health program administration and teaching of students in the allied health setting.

Incumbents must possess proven ability to effectively work with a culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and student. They are expected to have excellent oral and written communication skills along with strong Information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams etc.)

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Healthcare or a related field with one (1) or more years of experience in a related field; or a combination of education, training and experience which would lead to the competencies required for successful performance of the position’s essential duties.

Successful Candidate must have or must possess:

  • Experience in one or more of the assigned subject disciplines.
  • Experience with Allied Health instruction and course design.
  • Experience with methods of testing and assessing student performance in allied health settings.
  • Experience with accreditation requirements in assigned disciplines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Allied health teaching experience at the college level in one or more of the following areas: CNA, MA, Phlebotomy, EKG Tech, Patient Care Technician.
  • Certified Phlebotomist, Registered Medical Assistant, LPN and/or RN.

Example of Job Duties:

Under the direction of the Director of the Center for Professional and Community Education, the Allied Health Programs Coordinator is accountable for contributing to useful practicum for assigned students through effective performance in these essential functional areas:

  • Provide instruction in the Registered Medical Assistant Program.
    • accountable for administering the practicum for assigned students and subject areas
  • Identify/assess credit-free allied health program needs.
    • accountable for contributing to the quality of student instruction
  • Develop, implement, and assess program development, including new program opportunities.
    • accountable for the quality of student instruction programs
  • Act as liaison to community agencies and institutions.
    • is accountable for effective liaison work with internal and external customers
  • Provide orientation and supervision to allied health staff.
    • accountable for the selection and supervision of allied health personnel

In addition to the accountabilities listed above, the incumbent is required to carry out the essential duties of: Attendance and participation at convocation and commencement ceremonies; Service on assigned committees and task forces; Attendance and participation at committee, staff, informational and professional meetings. These may involve attendance at evening or weekend events.

Starting Salary:

$69,276 approximate annual* plus excellent State of CT medical insurance, retirement, and related fringe benefits. Salary Range for this level is $69,276-$125,865. (*New hires to State employment start at minimum of salary range).
