INTRODUCTION

The Finance Department in the School of Business at the University of Connecticut invites applications for a non-tenure track position at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor In-Residence to begin in Fall 2022.

The successful candidate will be expected to share a deep commitment to effective instruction at the undergraduate and graduate levels, to the development of innovative courses, and to the mentoring of students in their professional development. In addition, individuals will be expected to contribute to scholarship and outreach targeted at the professional community so as to maintain faculty qualifications under AACSB guidelines. Successful candidates will also be expected to broaden participation among members of under-represented groups; demonstrate through their activities the richness of diversity in the learning experience; integrate multicultural experiences into instructional methods and research tools; contribute to the development of pedagogical techniques designed to meet the needs of diverse learning styles and intellectual interests.

This position involves teaching mainstream finance courses (including Corporate Finance, Investments especially Fixed Income, Mergers & Acquisitions, Derivatives, Financial Institutions, and Financial Risk Management) at the undergraduate and graduate levels at any of the UConn campuses in Storrs, Hartford, Stamford, and Waterbury. An integral part of the position involves a number of outreach and supervisory duties, such as oversight of student theses as a requirement of the undergraduate honors program and faculty advising of the undergraduate finance club. Additionally, the position may involve supervision of student projects sponsored by businesses and conducting workshops involving the use of software programs and datasets in the various graduate and experiential learning programs of the School of Business, especially the Financial Risk Management program. There is also the expectation of practitioner or applied research in Finance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in Finance, Economics, or a closely related discipline. Equivalent foreign degrees are acceptable.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching.
  • Experience working with students in a non-classroom setting.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Understanding that this is a non-tenure track position, and that the position's primary responsibilities will be in teaching and outreach/service.
  • A deep commitment to promoting diversity through their academic programs.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ph.D. in finance or economics (candidates expecting to finish their Ph.D. by the start of employment are encouraged to apply; equivalent foreign degrees are acceptable. Ph.D. is required for consideration for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor In-Residence).
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching finance in a School of Business at an institution of higher education.
  • Research, teaching, and industry experience in the areas of Private Equity, Entrepreneurial Finance, and Financing innovations.
  • Evidence of scholarly and/or applied research in finance.
  • Evidence of supervision of student projects as part of the requirements of an experiential learning program.
  • Academic administrative experience and/or outreach experience dealing with outside constituents.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, 9-month, end-dated, non-tenure-track position with the possibility of annual reappointment, contingent on positive annual reviews and program funding, and may lead to a multi-year appointment. The anticipated start date is August 23, 2022. The successful candidate's primary academic appointment will be at the Storrs campus with the possibility of assignment at other UConn regional campuses to teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and online at the master’s level. They may also teach large sections of the introductory courses and are expected to participate in service activities, especially student advising. Salary and faculty rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
