MnSCU Academic Professional 1

Unclassified – Unlimited, Part-Time - 2 Positions

Minnesota North College – Hibbing Campus is seeking to fill two (2) part-time, .80% FTE (32 hours per week), MnSCU Academic Professional 1 (AP1) – TRIO Upward Bound Advisor positions.

These positions exist to identify, recruit, and advise program participants; conduct academic and career assessments; assist with organizing and accomplishing cultural, educational, and social enrichment activities for the academic year and summer component, including coordination of academic study sessions to prepare high school students for college.

Salary Range: $20.91 - $30.24 per hour

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or seeking degree.
  • Ability to explain and help interpret complex policies involving multiple departments such as records and registration, financial aid, business services, bookstore and admissions.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and meet deadlines on simultaneous projects.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software and database usage.
  • Ability to collect data and accurately maintain records.
  • Ability to act independently and make decisions accordingly.
  • Commitment to diversity as well as a demonstrated ability to work successfully with persons of diverse backgrounds including sensitivity to their needs and concerns.
  • Strong interpersonal/human relation skills.
  • Valid MN Driver's license and ability to drive college 7-passenger van.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in academic secondary or post-secondary setting.
  • Experience and understanding of methods of academic improvement and motivation.
  • Working knowledge of post-secondary programs and services (e.g. Minnesota State)
  • Background of overcoming barriers similar to students served by the Project, and/or TRIO experience.
