Full Job Description

Responsible for the daily operations of the Weekley Family YMCA including member experience, youth and family programming, center staffing and facilities. Participates in volunteer and staff development, financial development, community relations and collaborations with community agencies.

Essential Functions:

  • Leads with inclusion and ensures all staff members and participants feel welcome and are treated with dignity and respect. Builds a staff and volunteer team that reflects the diversity of the community.
  • Responsible for the daily operations of center to ensure adherence to standard policies and procedures.
  • Provides support in the area of board development and leads assigned volunteer committees.
  • Assists with fundraising efforts around the center’s annual support campaign to ensure goals are met.
  • Represents and promotes the YMCA in the local community and develops positive working relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community agencies in service delivery area.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops and directs employees and volunteers. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Develops, manages, and monitors operating budgets for assigned center to meet or exceed targets. Recommends adjustments to the budget to assure a balanced operation and submits reports on current operations.
  • Develops and directs high quality member engagement strategies and programs that support center and association mission, goals, and strategies.
  • Aligns center operations, within the matrix and centralized program delivery models.
  • Supports association initiatives through center operations and fund development.
  • Ensures the safety and maintenance of high quality facilities, grounds, and equipment.
  • Responds to and resolves employee relations issues and member and community inquires and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Serves as a member of YMCA management and supports the overall objectives of the YMCA.

  • Bachelor's degree in human services, social services, business or equivalent.
  • Three or more years of management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other not-for-profit agency.
  • Ability to direct assigned operations within the areas of staff supervision, budget development, local marketing, program development and delivery, as well as assist with volunteer development and community engagement.
  • Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with diverse populations
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
  • YMCA Multi-Team or Center Leader certification preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

May directly supervises part time, exempt and non-exempt employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; reviewing and approving timesheets; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; monitoring and updating all required staff certifications; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

COMPUTER LITERACY

Skills are essential in all of the Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Access. Ability to use these programs to lighten work load, develop reports and to automate procedures is very necessary. Ability to diagnose basic PC problems and to communicate those problems is very important.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

TRAVEL

Travel is primarily local between assigned centers during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
