Development Director

The Development Director is responsible for managing activities related to the analysis, planning, execution, control and evaluation of fundraising in the community (includes businesses and individuals). He/she promotes knowledge and awareness of LHFH and cultivates donors to raise funds and support the construction of decent, affordable housing. The Development Director works with the Executive Director, Finance Director and Fundraising Committee for all fundraising programs, including public relations activities.

Following are the essential functions of the job.

Marketing –
Make public appearances/accept speaking engagements to educate and promote information about LHFH
Write, develop and strategize online content production and scheduling
Assist Executive Director with crisis management and negative news communications
Create and distribute LHFH marketing materials

Events & Fundraising –
Establish and maintain strong community networks
Manage all donor, corporate and fundraising events
Direct the affiliates signature fundraising events including Women Build, Corporate Build, Builder’s Ball and Faith Build Breakfast
Oversee and provide analysis for events – lead discussion for modification/change to current structure as needed
Generate and recruit new individual, faith and corporate donors and potential organization house sponsors
Cultivate volunteers into donors in partnership with Volunteer & Communications Coordinator
Communicate with, appreciate, and connect with existing individual donors to increase giving
Direct the annual fund program, including mailings and annual fundraising drives
Prepare gift acknowledgement letters, Board Thank You notes, New Donor letter, Anniversary Cards, etc

Strategy & Planning-
In cooperation with the Executive Director, lead the development of any long-term strategy to achieve agreed long-term organizational goals
Identify new potential income streams and produce strategies to access these funds
Develop new strategies, systems, and ideas for optimal organization and departmental excellence
Grow a major gifts program and/or planned giving including identification, cultivation and solicitation of major donors.
Produce cost-effective budgets and schedules to achieve action plans
Develop and maintain income and expenditure tracking

Database Administration –
Enter donor data accurately and consistently into Donor Perfect software
Conduct quarterly database maintenance to ensure accuracy (merge duplicates, update information, etc)
Ensure agency compliance with post office regulations
Export data to create invitation and solicitation lists and work with fundraising team to identify solicitation parameters
Management of donor thank you process including complex mail merges, proofreading, and printing envelopes
Provide data to various departments requesting information using export, query and report functions
Work with vendor to troubleshoot and resolve database issues
Identify and implement processes and improvements to ensure the integrity of the database, including troubleshooting/identifying inconsistencies and making corrections

Attend monthly staff meetings, organizational trainings, etc. Perform other related duties as assigned by Executive Director

Requirements:
Bachelor’s in Marketing/Development required
Nonprofit work experience preferred
Firm understanding of how to establish effective and long-lasting fundraising techniques
Expertise in managing the development function of a non-profit organization
Strong leadership, management and motivational skills
Proficient in Office suite programs and marketing software
Handles multiple priorities
Independent discretion/decision making
Makes decisions under pressure
Manages anger/fear/hostility effectively and professionally
Manages stress appropriately
Works alone effectively
Works in close proximity to others and/or in a distracting environment
Works with others effectively
Maintains boundaries with customers, other staff members and families
