Adjunct Faculty, Accounting (summer)
Position Available: Fall 2022
FLSA Status: Exempt (salary)
Job Status: Part-time Faculty (non-tenure track)

Position Summary:
The Brennan School of Business at Dominican University is seeking a part-time Adjunct Faculty Member to teach Acct 604 (Accounting for Managers) in the Fall 2022 semester. Accounting for Managers is a 15-week course and a required course for students in the MBA Program. The course will be taught on campus in a traditional face-to-face format and meets Wednesday evening from 6:30pm – 9:30pm from August 29th – December 17th. The course pre-requisite covers basic accounting principles, equivalent to an introductory financial accounting course. The adjunct faculty member may work with senior accounting faculty to examine current teaching materials, cases, and software specific to this course.

Course Description:
This course explores cost accounting concepts. The analysis and measurement of costs are studied in relation to managerial decision making. Students examine managerial accounting procedures and develop problem solving techniques required by business managers to operate effectively and efficiently. Topics emphasized include costing methods, cost-volume-profit analysis, budgeting and variance analysis, capital budgeting techniques and activity-based costing and management.

Responsibilities:

  • Attend a new faculty orientation meeting (virtual0 in mid-August
  • Teach material from approved curriculum
  • Write original test questions and deliver assignments appropriate to subject matter
  • Provide regular and timely feedback to students
  • Hold office hours
  • Prepare and deliver final exams and enter final grades in accordance with the Registrar’s Office policy and procedures
  • Coordinate with senior accounting faculty regarding integration of lectures into broader curriculum

Supplemental Information:
Salary is commensurate with experience and academic credentials.

Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree (e.g., M.B.A. or M.S.) or Doctoral Degree
  • Teaching experience in the field of accounting
  • Knowledge and skill in software applications such as Excel, Tableau, and QuickBooks is preferred.
  • Three to five years of work-related experience or PhD candidates in accounting is preferred.
