The University of South Dakota’s Beacom School of Business seeks applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Accounting or a Visiting Assistant Professor in Accounting with Fall 2022 start date. The Accounting Department offers its undergraduate major to over 150 students on its Vermillion and Sioux Falls campuses, making it the School’s largest major. At the graduate level, over 60 students take classes on its main campus or through its online Master of Professional Accountancy programs. The online program, now in its eighth year, is nationally ranked due to its affordability and high CPA exam pass rate. Through the efforts of the School’s Career Success Center, the program has a high placement rate (over 95%) of its graduates, and consistently places students in internships with Big Four, national, regional public accounting firms and industry. The eight-member department is actively engaged with the profession and works closely with its Advisory Council. Faculty are recognized as outstanding teachers and researchers.
The successful applicant will be expected to teach accounting courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Assistant Professor is expected to bring a unique and innovative educational experience to students through classroom teaching, academic advising, and mentorship. As such, there is opportunity for student engagement through academic advising and mentoring student activities outside the classroom. The applicant must be willing to teach courses in both the traditional and online environments. The successful candidate will be expected to teach classes on the main campus in Vermillion, SD, online, and in Sioux Falls, SD. Contribution to the scholarship of accounting is also required. Service for the Department includes mentoring and advising students interested in accounting, working with student organizations, and assisting with Beacom School of Business events.

REQUIREMENTS: A Ph.D. in Accounting or DBA in Accounting from an accredited business school is required. Candidates who are ABD will be considered. Additionally, candidates must have a record of or potential for contribution to the scholarship of accounting. Other requirements are prior accounting work experience, proficiency in oral and written communication, and enthusiasm for engagement, service, and the public good.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates with a Ph.D., DBA, or ABD from an AACSB-International accredited business school are preferred. The ability to teach advanced accounting, intermediate accounting, and principles of accounting is preferred.
