Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The Director of Development will design, implement, and manage a major gifts program to attract philanthropic support for Hoag's Jeffrey M. Carlton Heart & Vascular Institute. In conjunction with the Executive Director of Development and in collaboration with colleagues at the Hoag Hospital Foundation, the Director will work with institute leadership to coordinate fundraising, stewardship, cultivation, and donor communications strategies. This individual will also be responsible for developing annual business plans and evaluating progress to goals. The Director will personally cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift donors ($100,000+) and manage a portfolio of major gift prospects and donors.

The Director of Development Operations is responsible for providing the strategic vision and day-to-day management of a comprehensive prospect management and research program, developing and maintaining the Foundation’s technological infrastructure and business processes, and providing staff with supporting policies, procedures and training.

The primary purpose of the prospect management program is to identify new major and principal gift prospects and to evaluate existing donors for increased levels of support.

The Director partners closely with frontline fundraising staff, their administrative support personnel and foundation leadership. Utilizing a variety of public and internal data sources, the Director develops reports, analysis and recommendations about potential donors and prospects.

The Director maintains proposal data, manages prospect and donor portfolios and facilitates review sessions that result in strategies and activities that successfully move prospects through the solicitation cycle. S/he develops donor and prospect reports appropriate to departmental needs.

The Director develops and manages solutions for technology, data integrity and report management needs across the Foundation. This position ensures that all technology assets are in place. S/he serves as the first point of reference for all technology hardware and software training, planning and troubleshooting. Additionally, the Director serves as liaison for the Foundation with the Hospital’s information technology and finance departments in relation to information systems and other data management needs.

The Director establishes and maintains written policies and procedures and facilitates pertinent training for support staff. The Director commands an understanding of industry best practices and new techniques and tools.

The Director supervises research and support staff, oversees the annual research and technology budget, and manages vendor relationships.

Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree required; minimum of five years of demonstrated leadership experience in technology and computer sciences, business or marketing statistics, and prospect management and research at a non-profit organization. Technical expertise and demonstrated proficiency using database and reporting software platforms (such as The Raiser’s Edge, Advance, Salesforce, QlikView), electronic data research systems (such as Lexis Nexis, DonorScape, Target Analytics), and other related software (such as Blackbaud NetCommunity, Omatic products, PaperSave)
