The School of Engineering and the Built Environment (SEBE) is delighted to be able to offer a new post in Civil and Structural Engineering.

SEBE offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes widely recognised for their academic quality, innovation and close ties to the industries in which our graduates work. The successful candidate shall be expected to assist in developing our expanding portfolio of programmes and contribute to the growing international standing of our research. We are currently undertaking a review of our activities, so now is a great time to join and help shape our school's future.

With regard to Civil Engineering, the subject group has a strong background in Structures, Geotechnics, Timber Engineering, Hydraulics and Project Management. We returned most academic staff to the recent research evaluation framework, REF2020, under the Engineering Unit of Assessment. Our programmes are accredited by the relevant professional body, the Joint Board of Moderators.

The Role

This role will be allocated to our Civil & Transportation Engineering Subject Group. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching and research in the areas of Surveying, Building Information Modelling and Structural Design.

The integration of Trimble technologies into the current Civil Engineering programme will be central to the role, as will the delivery of face-to-face teaching. Knowledge of Trimble surveying equipment and related software platforms would therefore be advantageous.

You will contribute to the University's objective of growing our academic reputation for research-informed student learning. An ability to drive research projects forward and to generate high quality outputs is important. You must be ambitious and enthusiastic about cross-disciplinary working and be committed to working collaboratively across the University.

Please note that you may be required to work overseas contributing to the international academic reputation of Edinburgh Napier University.

What we are looking for

Applicants must demonstrate:

  • A doctoral-level qualification
  • Academic standing in teaching & learning and research.
  • Delivery of high quality, student-centred teaching and learning.
  • Sufficient breadth and depth of experience to underpin the on-going development of teaching and learning within the School and support an expansion of the Subject Group's funded research portfolio.

Desirable attributes

Ideally HEA membership or a strong willingness to achieve membership
Membership of professional body with a view to chartered status.
Knowledge of Trimble surveying products (or equivalent platforms)
