Vaccine Protocol

The University of Maryland has made the safety of our students, faculty and staff, and our surrounding communities a top priority. As part of that commitment, the University System of Maryland (USM) recently announced that students, faculty, and staff on USM campuses this fall, including UMD, are required to be vaccinated against COVID. Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The College of Education at the University of Maryland invites applications for the position of Chair of the Department of Teaching and Learning, Policy and Leadership (TLPL), which is a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Professor. The College of Education seeks an innovative leader with vision and skill in supporting collaborative research, teacher education, and engaging with a wide range of stakeholders. The Chair will also engage in developing and supporting ongoing collaborative equity and anti-racism initiatives within the department and across the College of Education.

The UMD College of Education recently celebrated its centennial and is proud of its diverse community of students, staff, and faculty.  Our mission is to enhance the lives of individuals, families, schools, and communities through our research, teaching, and engagement.  We create knowledge about critical facets of education and human development and share that knowledge to improve lives in Maryland and throughout the broader national and international community.  We prepare students to be the next generation of scholars, educators, and transformative leaders. Our values of impact, excellence, diversity and inclusion, innovation, social justice, collaboration, and community are at the core of the work we do. The College of Education at the University of Maryland is among the best in the nation, ranked 28th by US News & World Report nationally, and 18th among public institutions. Highly ranked programs in TLPL include Curriculum and Instruction (18th), Secondary Teacher Education (18th), Education Policy (22nd), and Elementary Teacher Education (23rd).

TLPL is one of three departments within the College of Education. To advance that ideal, the department supports cutting-edge research and offers graduate and undergraduate programs that apply a range of theoretical orientations, discipline-based perspectives and research methodologies to the study of educational problems, policies, learning processes, and learning environments, especially those housed in schools and school districts. The department’s graduate programs prepare students to assume a variety of roles, including scholars, researchers, policy analysts, teacher educators, instructional specialists, curriculum developers, teachers, education leaders, and advocates.
