Research Specialist, Irvine Lab

RESEARCH SPECIALIST, Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research-Irvine Lab, to support the daily operations of a research laboratory consisting of twenty-five-plus graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and technicians and assist with protein production. Technical tasks will include assisting lab members with primary research as needed to explore new ideas or help bring ongoing projects to publication; and helping with production, purification, and characterization of proteins.  Managerial duties will include onboarding new lab members and managing lab space allocation; assisting with maintenance of equipment/inventory and research space; assisting with laboratory documentation and recordkeeping; coordinating shipment and receipt of material for scientific collaborations; serving as a liaison with building facilities; serving as environmental health and safety officer; updating lab website and managing access to servers, software licenses, and workstations. Efforts will also include streamlining laboratory operations and troubleshooting issues.  


Job Requirements

REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, bioengineering, chemical engineering, or related technical discipline; four years’ specialized, relevant experience in a research/development laboratory; excellent organizational, problem-solving, interpersonal, and record-keeping skills; ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a laboratory setting; strong leadership and managerial skills; proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Google Drive; verbal communication and presentation skills; ability collaborate and maintain a workplace that embraces teamwork and inclusivity; and attention to detail.  PREFERRED:  master’s degree, experience with protein expression in mammalian cells and HPLC, supervisory experience, and experience managing a lab.   Job #21271

Salary range: $62,000-85,000 based on amount of experience

Must be able to respond to laboratory emergencies outside of regular work hours, including occasional nights, weekends, and holidays.
