We are currently seeking a Texas Success Initiatives (TSI) Coach who will advance the institution’s proud tradition of excellence in academics, student life and community service.

 

The Opportunity

 

If you are someone who is interested in helping others learn and succeed, this will be a good fit for you!  In this role you will provide instructional support in the subjects of reading, writing, and/or mathematics for current and prospective dual credit students who have not met college readiness standards.  You will work one-on-one or in a group setting at a high school or Houston Community campus location.  You will refer students to the appropriate resources to support TSI score increases in reading, writing and/or math.  You will have the opportunity to watch students learn and succeed in their academic program thanks to your fine effort and dedication.

SUMMARY

Provides instructional support in the subjects of reading, writing, and/or mathematics for current and prospective dual credit students who have not met college readiness standards.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

 

Use diagnostic Texas Success Initiatives (TSI) data to provide targeted interventions to students who do not meet college readiness standards in the subjects of reading, writing, and/or mathematics.

 

Provide students instruction in one-on-one and/or group setting at the high school or college campus.

 

Develop TSI preparation material or use existing reading, writing, and/or mathematics preparation resources.

 

Documents for the P-16 Offices the TSI instructional activities and strategies provided to students.

 

Refer students to appropriate resources to support TSI score increases in reading, writing, and/or mathematics (e.g., Library Services).

 

Potentially provide reports regarding student performance related to TSI Academies.

 

Provide P-16 office and high school liaisons information on student performance on TSI preparation activities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above.  The qualifications listed below are representative of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

 

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE

One year of related experience in high school and/or college teaching, tutoring, advising, or other student success support areas.

 

Knowledge of curriculum related to Developmental Mathematics, Developmental Writing, and/or Developmental Reading.

 

Knowledge of HCC student services and instructional support services available to students.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Must have knowledge of tutoring, instructional, and mentoring techniques.

 

Knowledge of processes and resources for organizing and leading group and collaborative activities.

 

Must have effective planning, organization, communication and interpersonal skills.

 

Ability to interact with students of diverse backgrounds.

 

Must be able to maintain an established schedule, which may include evenings and weekends.

 

Ability to maintain confidentiality of student information.

 

Demonstrated proficiency using computer applications, classroom or other current learning technologies for effective teaching at the community college level.
